If you want to understand the West Highland Way, start by rolling up your sleeves.

Our new Director has spent a busy week getting properly stuck in: clearing ditches on remote stretches of the route, meeting the businesses who champion the Trust, and joining volunteers on Conic Hill to help keep the trail in top condition.

Despite the wind and rain, it has been an inspiring few days meeting the people who care so passionately about Scotland's favourite long-distance route.

A special thanks to the team at Macs Adventure Crianlarich Hotel and the Rangers from Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park hs for their support, boat access, local knowledge and good humour throughout.

The West Highland Way is so much more than a path. It's a community.

The 5th BOO (Bridge of Orchy) 10k race takes place this Sunday 1 Nov at 11:30am. The route begins at the bridge itself therefore this section of the WHW will be slightly busier than usual.

Thank you to the organisers for supporting trail maintenance with a donation. Good luck everyone!

Turn passion into support.

People care deeply about the West Highland Way. Could you help turn that passion into lasting support?

Our trustees, including Carole pictured here, share that passion for this remarkable 96-mile route. Through our work so far, we’ve found many more people keen to help when they discover there is a charitable Trust supporting its future.

Our Funding and Communications Manager will help build on that goodwill: developing fundraising, growing membership, building partnerships and showing people what their support can help achieve.

You’ll join our new Director and passionate trustees, working with partners along the Way to help care for a route that means so much to local communities, businesses and visitors from around the world.

Applications close today, Monday 26 October, at 5pm.
• 25 hours per week, with flexible working available
• £34,000–£38,000 pro rata
• Two-year contract, with potential to extend
• Initially home-based in Scotland

The clocks go back this Sunday at 2am, marking the end of British Summer Time. On the plus side, you get an extra hour in bed but, if you are out walking, the hours of daylight will gradually get shorter.

What’s the view from your desk?

Your working day might begin at home, but the place your work supports stretches for 96 remarkable miles.

From Milngavie, just outside Glasgow, the West Highland Way travels through Scotland’s first national park, across Rannoch Moor and past the dramatic mountains of Glencoe, before reaching Fort William.

Imagine the satisfaction of walking a section of that route and knowing you’ve helped build support for its care. Seeing a bridge, a path or a stretch of trail and understanding the work that keeps people moving along it.

Our Funding and Communications Manager will help make those connections: between people and place, and between the stories we tell and the support they inspire.

Working alongside our new Director and trustees, you’ll help grow fundraising and bring supporters closer to the Trust’s work.
This is the final weekend to apply.
• 25 hours per week, with flexible working available
• £34,000–£38,000 pro rata

***Update - Good news - we are back up and running!***

Like many organisations affected by the PHP security flaw announced yesterday, the West Highland Way Trust is examining our website and installing the appropriate updates. While we have this work done, the West Highland Way and the West Highland Way Trust websites will be offline.

A huge thank you to our colleagues at Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park who are helping us out.

We are so sorry if you were hoping to look through the accommodation or food and drink listings from our fantastic business partners along the route or were thinking about buying some of our excellent merchandise in the shop! Rest assured these will be back with you as soon as possible. Maybe this is your sign to take a break and go for a wee walk?

Thank you for bearing with us while this is sorted out.

The bridge you cross without a second thought. The drainage that carries water away from the path.

They might not be the things you notice as you enjoy the West Highland Way, but they are essential to your journey.

Keeping the Way open and cared for takes investment and ongoing work. The Trust raises support to help the local authorities responsible for maintaining the route look after the paths and infrastructure we all depend on.

As our Funding and Communications Manager, you’ll help explain that need and build the support behind it. You’ll connect fundraising with something people can see and experience: a route they can continue to enjoy.

There is now one week left to apply.
You’ll work closely with our new Director and trustees, bringing fundraising experience, ideas and strong communication skills to a cause that matters to people near and far.

25 hours per week | £34,000–£38,000 pro rata

A favourite local walk. A weekend run. A journey people travel across the world to make.

The West Highland Way means something different to everyone who enjoys it.
For some, it’s the challenge of walking all 96 miles. For others, it’s a familiar section close to home. For businesses along the route, the walkers it brings are an important part of their livelihoods.

Our Funding and Communications Manager will help bring this community together: people who live, work, visit, walk and run along the Way.
Through fundraising, partnerships and engaging communications, you’ll help more people understand the Trust’s work and find their own way to support it.
We’re looking for an experienced fundraiser who can build relationships and turn a shared love of this route into lasting support.

25 hours per week | £34,000–£38,000 pro rata
