It is the last Irish infantry regiment of the British Line. The 1st Battalion is based in Tern Hill, Shropshire and has recently rejoined 16 Air Assault Brigade where it will combine high-readiness with the light protected mobility provided by the next generation of Infantry vehicles. The 2nd Battalion is an Army Reserve battalion with companies located across Northern Ireland. It has a proud record of deploying more Reservists in support of operations than any other Army Reserve unit. Faugh a Ballagh

During HMS Queen Elizabeth’s recent visit to Belfast, the Assistant Commander of 38 (Irish) Brigade presented Captain Claire Thompson OBE RN, Commanding Officer of the ship, with a regimental plaque on behalf of the Regiment.

The presentation marked a memorable occasion, commemorating the historic visit of a Royal Navy aircraft carrier to Northern Ireland for the first time since 1965.

Ranger Cup 🏆🏌️‍♂️⛳️

Congratulations to 2 R IRISH on securing victory in this year’s Ranger Cup - the annual golfing competition between the 1st and 2nd Battalions.

Played across two fantastic courses at Castlerock Golf Club and The Royal Belfast Golf Club, the contest was closely fought throughout, with 2 R IRISH taking the honours with a final score of 5 1/2 - 3 1/2.

A great display of Regimental camaraderie.

The Global War on Terror

Today marks the 25th Anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the United States of America. The response to terrorism - and states that support it - led to the British Army's deployment to Iraq, Afghanistan, the Horn of Africa and sub-Saharan Africa in support of the Global War on Terror.

Today we remember all of those whose lives were so cruelly taken that morning in America. We remember our fallen, who were lost in the fight to end the scourge of terrorism, and we remember their families and friends; We remember those who live with wounds of body and mind and those who care for them; And we remember those for whom the burden of their service became unbearable.
