Lest we forget. 🌺

On 11 November, at 11am, we’ll join people across Blackpool and the UK in observing the silence to remember those who gave their lives in service of our country.

We remember the fallen of two world wars and of conflicts since. We also remember the families who lost loved ones, and the veterans and serving personnel who continue to give so much.

Please take a moment on the day to pause, reflect and pay your respects. Wear a poppy with pride, and if you can, attend a local service or support the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal.

We will remember them. 🇬🇧

November is Men’s Health Awareness Month, and we’re proud to back it. 💙

Across Blackpool, too many men are struggling in silence. Su***de remains the biggest killer of men under 50 in the UK, and talking about it can save lives.

That’s why we’re supporting Movember this year. Whether you’re growing a moustache, taking on a challenge or just checking in on a mate, every little bit helps.

Our members and supporters will be getting involved, and we’ll be sharing the hairy progress (good or bad) throughout the month! 🥸

Here’s how you can help:

✅ Ask your mates, dads, brothers and colleagues how they’re really doing, and then listen

✅ Sign up or sponsor someone at https://uk.movember.com/

✅ Share this post to help get people talking

If you’re struggling, you’re not alone. Samaritans are available 24/7 on 116 123 (free to call), and your GP is always there to help.

Let’s look out for each other, Blackpool. 💪

🌊 £129m to protect Blackpool’s coast. But where are the answers?

Our sea defences matter. The Environment Agency has awarded £129m for new rock groynes. But the council’s latest report, going to scrutiny on 4 November, leaves big questions 👇

📌 One scheme has been cut back. Bispham’s works have been reduced “because of increase in costs”. The report doesn’t say by how much, or what has been dropped.

📌 Safety concerns stalled the Blackpool scheme. The planning application was deferred on 1 September after lifeboat safety questions. Work can’t start before early 2027, and that’s if permission is granted.

📌 Sand loss was spotted in 2020. Two of the three schemes haven’t started.

💬 Blackpool deserves:

✔️ Clear costs and dates for every scheme
✔️ Safety questions settled before, not after, the plans go in
✔️ Honesty about what the council may have to pay

🔍 Youth crime in Blackpool: what the council isn’t telling you

Labour’s Youth Justice Plan goes to the Executive on 9 November. We read it. Here’s what stood out 👇

📌 Blackpool has had more first-time young offenders than similar areas, and the national average, for years. The council admits this. Yet the report lists the risk as “no issues of concern”.

📌 No numbers on knife crime. The plan has a priority to cut knife crime and serious youth violence. The report gives no figures, no baseline and no target.

📌 Victims aren’t in the consultation. Inspectors said victim engagement needed improving. The only people the report says were consulted are the children themselves.

📌 No costs. “Financial considerations: None.” But the same council is forecasting a £7.2m overspend in Children’s Services.

💬 Blackpool deserves:

✔️ Early help that works, with funding that doesn’t depend on selling property
✔️ Clear figures on youth crime and knife crime
✔️ A voice for victims and residents

🚨 Blackpool Council’s own report: £15.6m of pressure, but the headline says £5.8m

Labour’s latest budget report goes to the Executive on 9 November. Here’s what it says when you read the small print 👇

📌 The headline hides millions. The overspend is £5.8m. But another £9.8m (Growth & Prosperity, Enterprise Zone and Tower/Winter Gardens) is parked in reserves instead. A £2.8m contingency pot also helps bring the number down.

📌 The safety net is shrinking. Rainy-day money is forecast at just £1.4m by March. The council’s own target is £7.8m.

📌 Borrowing has more than doubled. Under £250m in 2017/18. Now £587m. Meanwhile, savings promised in the budget are £1.7m short, and the report relies on selling off council property to cover the gap.

💷 Blackpool taxpayers deserve better:

✔️ A budget that shows the full picture, not just the headline
✔️ Clear dates for when the Tower, Winter Gardens and regeneration schemes will pay back
✔️ Real consultation before big money decisions, not “None”

👉 What do you think? Should Labour be selling off property to plug gaps? Tell us below 👇
