There’s something rather satisfying about seeing the c***r press running at this time of year – even if it is a little earlier than we’re used to! Harvest is well underway and this year has certainly brought a few challenges. The hot, dry weather has put some stress on the apple trees, meaning some fruit has dropped earlier than usual before fully ripening, while a few varieties have produced a surprisingly small crop.
But that’s farming – and c***r-making – for you. You work with what the season gives you. 🍎
Thankfully, the fruit we have harvested is looking really promising, with some lovely sugar levels and apples pressing beautifully. We’re busy preserving that harvest and turning it into what we hope will be a fantastic selection of c***rs for the year ahead.
🎥 Here’s a little behind-the-scenes look at the press in action - While today’s equipment might look a world away from traditional c***r-making, the same care and attention still goes into every batch. Modern technology simply gives us a helping hand with productivity, consistency and quality control.
And it got us thinking…
How did we get here? From traditional c***r-making methods to the history, customs and crafts that have grown alongside c***r – including the fascinating tradition of hurdle-making on Cranborne Chase. Which brings us nicely to our upcoming evening…
