๐Ÿ‘ฎ A new Inspector has been welcomed to the Hertsmere Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT).

Inspector Craig Butler has over 20 years of policing experience, having worked across Response, Roads Policing, Neighbourhood Policing and Community Safety teams.

He will be responsible for overseeing the three teams that make up Hertsmereโ€™s NPT; and , Bar and and and .

Made up of police officers and PCSOs, they are all responsible for tackling long- and short-term neighbourhood issues and work closely with local partners such as the council.

Speaking about his new role, Inspector Butler said: โ€œIโ€™m really looking forward to getting to know Hertsmere, meeting the communities who live and work here and understanding the issues that matter most to them.

โ€œNeighbourhood policing is all about building relationships and working together to solve problems. Iโ€™m looking forward to working with Hertsmere Borough Council and our other local partners who all play a role in keeping the community safe. Iโ€™m particularly keen to improve road safety across the borough, using enforcement and education to tackle issues such as speeding and dangerous driving.โ€

One of Inspector Butlerโ€™s highlights since joining the constabulary in 2006 was the partnership work to protect women and girls in Watford following the COVID-19 lockdowns. This included introducing a โ€˜safe zoneโ€™ at Pryzm nightclub. It meant anyone feeling vulnerable, unwell, or unsafe could speak to security or get medical assistance in a dedicated support hub.

Inspector Butler said: โ€œThat work showed what can be achieved when police, local authorities and other partners come together with a shared goal. It made a real difference and remains one of the most rewarding parts of my policing career.โ€

Looking ahead to his new role in Hertsmere, he added: โ€œPlease tell us about the issues affecting you. We rely on information and feedback from the public to help us identify concerns, target our resources effectively and make a real difference in our communities. If we donโ€™t know about it, we canโ€™t do anything about it. By working together, we can continue to make Hertsmere a safe place to live, work and visit.โ€

Inspector Butler replaces the newly promoted Chief Inspector Rachael Robertson. Outside of work, he is a keen American football fan and enjoys going to the gym and walking his dog.

๐Ÿšฒ Officers from the Hertsmere Neighbourhood Policing Team are hosting a free bike-marking event tomorrow (Saturday 31 October).

The event will take place in the ๐Ÿ“ car park of the Cafรฉ in the Orchard (formerly Shenley Tea Rooms) in Shenley Park, Radlett Lane.

Residents will be able to drop in between 2pm and 3pm to get their bike security marked for free.

When a bike is security marked, it is registered to a national database and marked with a unique code, making it easier for police to identify, trace and return it if it is ever lost or stolen.

๐Ÿ‘ฎ Sergeant Noel Buckley, from the Hertsmere Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: โ€œBike theft can have a huge impact on victims, so weโ€™re encouraging residents to come along and take advantage of this free security-marking event. It only takes a few minutes and can make it much easier for us to identify and return a stolen bike to its rightful owner. Weโ€™ll also be on hand to offer crime prevention advice and answer any questions.โ€

Following an increase in shoplifting in , PCSO Karen Gregson spent extra time patrolling around the shops. She also conducted patrols around the train station where we suspect some shoplifters may be coming from.

We understand the concern that retail crime can cause for local businesses and customers. Officers will continue to carry out regular patrols and work closely with businesses to prevent offences, identify suspects and ensure Radlett remains a safe place to live, work and shop.

๐Ÿ‘ฎ Officers from the Hertsmere Neighbourhood Policing Team attended the and Diversity Festival at the weekend (24 and 25 October).

The two-day event saw residents, community groups and local organisations come together to celebrate the area's rich mix of cultures and communities.

Taking place at ๐Ÿ“ Allum Hall, it provided an opportunity for residents to access support, seek advice and speak directly with local officers about issues affecting them.

Officers shared a stall with Hertsmere Borough Council, where visitors were able to discuss local concerns and receive crime prevention advice.

Topics raised included personal safety, burglary prevention and support available for those navigating complex issues involving both civil and potential criminal matters. Although police are unable to provide legal advice on civil disputes, officers were able to listen to concerns, explain where police powers may apply and signpost residents to appropriate organisations and support services.

Families also received information about local activities designed to support wellbeing and bring communities together, including Creative Cafรฉs run by Communities First and Hertfordshire Health Walks.

As part of ongoing efforts to help residents protect themselves from crime, officers distributed burglary prevention packs containing UV property-marking pens, which can be used to mark valuables with a postcode and house number to help identify recovered property. Officers also discussed other property-marking options, including SelectaDNA.

A range of additional crime prevention tools were handed out, including timer switches for lights, personal safety advice, purse bells, sprung keyrings and RFID-blocking card sleeves designed to help reduce the risk of theft and fraud. Residents were also encouraged to carry personal alarms and download the Hollie Guard personal safety app.

Events like this help us build trust, improve understanding and ensure people feel comfortable approaching their local neighbourhood officers. We had some great conversations over the weekend and were pleased to provide practical advice and support to those who visited our stall ๐Ÿ’™ And a special mention must go to the Mencap volunteers who did a brilliant job supporting the festival as stewards ๐Ÿ‘

๐Ÿš” A wanted man arrested by Hertsmere officers has been sent to prison for two years after admitting two burglaries and thefts.

Scott Reed, 47, of Cowley Hill in Borehamwood, was arrested by the Hertsmere Neighbourhood Policing Team at an address in South Mimms after officers acted on information about his whereabouts.

Reed was charged in connection with two commercial burglaries and had two further theft offences taken into consideration. Following his court appearance, suspended sentences were activated and he was jailed for a total of two years.

The investigation involved offences at premises including the Yo! Sushi counter inside Tesco in Borehamwood and three businesses in St Albans.

Detective Inspector Mike Ball said: โ€œThis was a great example of proactive policing and teamwork. Thanks to information received and the swift actions of officers, Reed was located, arrested and brought before the courts. His imprisonment demonstrates our commitment to pursuing offenders and keeping our communities safe.โ€

๐Ÿ‘ Excellent work by Hertsmere neighbourhood officers and colleagues across the county to secure this result and remove a persistent offender from the streets.
