🚨LESS THAN 1 DAY TO GO - BRIDLINGTON NORTH BY-ELECTION 🚨

28/10/2026

🚨 **MY REACTION TO TODAY’S BUDGET**

There are some welcome measures, but serious questions remain about growth, taxation and the future of our economy.

Our small businesses, pubs, restaurants and independent traders are under pressure. Families are struggling with the cost of living, and we need to ensure that work genuinely pays.

As a Conservative, I believe in rewarding hard work, supporting people who need welfare, backing enterprise and ensuring taxpayers get value for money.

We need **lower taxes, less bureaucracy, responsible public spending and a stronger economy that rewards aspiration and opportunity.**

Britain needs a clear plan for growth, one that backs the people who create jobs, invest in our communities and keep our economy moving.

🎥 Watch my video and let me know what you think.

🚂💙 I believe in backing businesses and most importantly Backing Bridlington and unlocking its potential.

Our land train could do so much more than connect our town centre and beaches. It could help visitors discover Bridlington’s historic Old Town, bringing our rich heritage, culture and history to life.

Imagine more visitors exploring our independent shops, restaurants and antique businesses, spending money locally and discovering the hidden gems that make Bridlington special.

It’s about connecting our attractions, supporting local businesses, boosting tourism and making the most of everything our town has to offer.

We should be ambitious for Bridlington, protecting our heritage while creating new opportunities for our high streets and local economy.

Stronger economy. Stronger communities. A brighter future for Bridlington. 💙

A brilliant day and evening with Katie Lam MP, Shadow Minister for Housing, Communities and Local Government, who travelled from Kent to discuss the importance of the May 2027 local elections and the housing challenges we have in the East Riding and specifically Bridlington.

Lovely to spend time with my CWO colleagues from across Yorkshire & Humber, represent CPF in my regional role, and catch up with Graham Stuart MP and Charlie Dewhirst MP.

Great to see colleagues coming together as we prepare for May 2027 and focus on the issues that matter to our communities. 💙

📢Community Update: PFI Issues Affecting Bridlington’s Schools

Today I attended a meeting with the company responsible for the PFI contracts that cover several Bridlington schools. As a school governor, I’ve seen first‑hand how these contracts are affecting children, teachers, and the wider school community, and it’s becoming impossible to ignore.

PFI was meant to guarantee high‑quality maintenance and responsive support. Instead, many of our schools are facing slow repairs, unresolved issues, and restrictions that make it harder for staff to do their jobs. When basic problems take weeks or months to fix, it’s the children who feel it most: classrooms too cold or too hot, broken equipment left unusable, outdoor areas not maintained properly, and learning disrupted by issues that should have been sorted quickly.

Teachers and support staff are under pressure too. They’re spending time chasing repairs, reporting the same issues repeatedly, and trying to keep learning environments safe and functional while waiting for contractors to act. It’s draining, it’s frustrating, and it’s not what our schools were promised.

Some schools have even had to stop certain activities or close off areas because repairs haven’t been completed. That’s not acceptable for any child’s education.

Today’s meeting was about challenging the company directly, raising the concerns governors and staff have been dealing with, and pushing for accountability. Our schools deserve contracts that work for them, not ones that slow everything down.

I’ll continue working with East Riding Council, school leaders, and fellow governors to make sure these issues are heard and acted on. Our children and teachers deserve better.

If you’re a parent, governor or staff member affected by PFI delays or restrictions, please share your experiences so they can be raised in future discussions.

Domestic Abuse Awareness Month
The bruises fade. The words do not!

Domestic abuse is not always visible. The bruises may heal, but the fear, psychological trauma and emotional scars can last for years.

And for some survivors, the abuse does not end when the relationship does.

Some remain in contact with their abuser for years, particularly when children are involved. From the outside, people may ask why they still engage, why they comply or why they cannot simply walk away.

But coercive control is not that simple.

When someone has spent years living with threats, intimidation and manipulation, their nervous system can adapt to survive. They may freeze, appease or fawn, complying with demands to avoid conflict, protect their children or prevent what they fear will happen next.

They may live with the constant, often unspoken threat: Do what I want, or there will be consequences.

Some fear their children will be taken away, turned against them or used as a means of control. Others learn that challenging the abuser comes at a price, so keeping the peace becomes a survival strategy.

Compliance is not consent. Silence is not agreement. And staying in contact is not proof that the abuse was not real.

We must stop judging survivors by what we think we would do in their position. Instead, we need to understand the impact of coercive control, recognise the many ways abuse continues after separation and ensure survivors receive support without blame.

I explored the lasting impact of domestic abuse in my article for ConservativeHome:

📰 Escaping domestic violence: People can get out and the bruises fade, but the words don’t.

This Domestic Abuse Awareness Month, let’s listen without judgement, challenge coercive control and remember that surviving abuse can look very different from what we expect.

The responsibility belongs to the abuser. Never the survivor.
