🚨 E-SCOOTERS: KNOW THE LAW! 🛴
Our officers have recently seized an electric scooter capable of reaching speeds of 28mph and a mini motor capable of reaching 15mph, both riders were under the age of 10 and wearing no helmet’s.
With electric scooters becoming increasingly popular, it’s important that riders and parents understand the law surrounding their use.
⚠️ Did you know?
🔹 Privately owned e-scooters cannot legally be ridden on public roads, pavements, cycle lanes or other public spaces. They can only be used on private land with the landowner’s permission.
🔹 The same restrictions can apply to other powered transporters, including mini motos, depending on the vehicle.
🔹 Riding these vehicles illegally on public roads or in other prohibited public spaces can result in prosecution, fines, penalty points and seizure of the vehicle.
🔹 E-scooters and mini motos can pose a risk to both riders and other members of the public, particularly pedestrians.
👨👩👧 Parents and guardians: Please ensure you know what your children are riding and where they are using it. These vehicles are not toys, and it is important to understand the potential consequences of riding them illegally.
We will continue to take action against the illegal use of these vehicles to help keep our roads and communities safe.
