đźš’ SEPTEMBER ROUND-UP đźš’

September got off to a fairly quiet start for our on-call crew… but that didn’t last!

📟 28 mobilisations
🔥 6 mobilisations to the Euxton barn fire
đźš’ 20+ hours of drill and training

The Euxton barn fire kept crews particularly busy, with L54P2 mobilised on six occasions to support and provide relief for crews working at the incident. We’ve also continued to monitor the site daily for any hotspots or flare-ups.

Alongside responding to incidents, the crew completed more than 20 hours of drill, keeping our skills sharp and ensuring we’re ready when the pager goes. 📟

September also saw members of the crew completing refresher training, and a big congratulations goes to FF Connor Iddon, who successfully completed his Breathing Apparatus Team Leader course. 👏🔥

Another busy month for Chorley’s on-call firefighters, balancing training and incidents alongside our normal jobs, families and everyday lives.

As always, we’re ready when needed. 🚒

🚒 Electrical Fire – Euxton ⚡🔥

At 22:44 hrs last night, L54P2 from Chorley was mobilised alongside L53P1 from Bamber Bridge to reports of an electrical fire at a domestic property in Euxton.

On arrival, crews found an external electric vehicle charger isolator alight.

Firefighters isolated the electrical supply before extinguishing the fire and ensuring the area was safe.

Crews then made the electrics within the property safe, allowing the homeowner to arrange for the installation to be fully checked by a qualified electrician before being put back into use.

Crews were on scene for approximately one hour.

⚡ Electrical Safety

Electrical faults can develop without warning. If you notice burning smells, unusual heat, buzzing or crackling, scorch marks, repeated tripping, or damage to electrical equipment, stop using it and have it checked by a competent electrician.

🔌 If you have an EV charger:
• Regularly check the charger, cable, plug and isolator for signs of damage or overheating.
• Never ignore unusual smells, noises or excessive heat.
• Don’t use damaged charging equipment.
• If you suspect an electrical fire, do not use water and do not put yourself at risk trying to isolate the supply.
• Get out, stay out and call 999 if there is a fire

🔥 BARN FIRE – EUXTON 🔥

At 23:20 hrs last night, L54P1 and L54P2 were mobilised to reports of a barn fire on Culbeck Lane, Euxton.

On arrival, crews were faced with a large straw barn well alight. Due to the size of the fire and the potential for it to spread, further resources were requested, including the Water Bowser from Leyland and the Drone Team.

Firefighters used multiple jets and hose reels to get as much water onto the fire as possible, working to prevent it spreading to nearby hay bales and an adjacent building.

The fire was brought under control, with dampening-down operations continuing to deal with remaining hotspots.

L54P1 and L54P2 were stood down shortly before 05:00 hrs, with our on-call firefighters finally getting back home at around 06:00 hrs.

It’s worth remembering that when the alerters sound, our on-call firefighters leave their beds, families and jobs behind and head straight to the station, whatever the time of day or night.

After spending most of the night tackling this fire, many will still be heading into their normal jobs today.

A long night for everyone involved. 🚒🔥

Firefighters were called to a barn fire on Culbeck Lane, Euxton, at 11:20pm on Wednesday 23 September.

On arrival, crews found a large straw barn well alight. The incident was quickly escalated and now involves eight fire engines, supported by specialist officers, a command unit, water bowser and drone resources.

Firefighters are working to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby agricultural buildings.

Due to the size and complexity of the incident, crews are expected to remain at the scene for an extended period.

Residents are advised to avoid the area where possible and keep windows and doors closed if affected by smoke. Motorists are also asked to take care and not to impede emergency vehicles attending the incident.

Further updates will be issued when available.

Update at 07:30am - Six fire engines remain at the scene of a large barn fire at Culbeck Farm, Culbeck Lane, Euxton.

At its height, the incident involved eight fire engines, supported by specialist officers, a water bowser, command and incident support units, and drone resources.

The fire involves a barn measuring approximately 40 metres by 20 metres and containing around 250 tonnes of straw. Firefighters have worked throughout the night to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby agricultural materials and buildings.

Damping-down operations are continuing, and machinery is being prepared to remove burnt and smouldering straw from the barn. Six relief crews have been brought in to continue firefighting operations.

This remains an ongoing and protracted incident. People are asked to avoid the area and keep nearby roads clear for emergency vehicles
