The Weaver's House

Call Directions Website

The Weaver's House The Weaver’s House is a restored medieval working man's house in Spon End, Coventry. Our Open Days programme will be back in 2027. Free to visit.

We can open by arrangement for small groups. We are a community organisation and a registered charity 1082728 The Weaver's House

In Spon Street, one of the most historic streets in Coventry, a terrace of six cottages built in 1455 has been brought back to life. One of the cottages has been restored to show how it would have looked in 1540. This shows how John Croke, a Coventry narrow-loom weaver and his family would have lived and worked. You can also see a replica of the loom that he would have used. Medieval Garden

At the back of the Weaver’s House is a medieval garden showing the plants that would have been grown for food, flavouring, medicine and household use. Open Days

At our free open days you can hear talks about the life of John Croke and the history of the buildings. Open Days can include demonstrations of weaving, spinning, embroidery and other activities connected with medieval life. Entry is free, but we are grateful if you can make a small donation. We are a small charity.

👻🩵 One of Coventry's oldest surviving houses is opening after dark this Halloween for an evening of spooky storytelling, paranormal tales and a journey back into the city's medieval past!

The Weaver's House on Upper Spon Street is hosting a special Halloween fundraiser inside its historic building, which has stood in Spon End for more than 500 years.

Visitors will hear a chilling performance of The Monkey's Paw, the famous horror story written in 1902 about a mysterious object that grants three wishes, but with terrifying consequences.

The story has been specially recorded by actor Paul Nolan, who has a family connection to the house.

And the evening won't end there.

One of the volunteer guides will also share paranormal tales associated with the building, while visitors can enjoy seasonal refreshments in the atmospheric surroundings.

The Weaver's House is part of Black Swan Terrace, a row of medieval cottages that survived centuries of change in Coventry.

One of the cottages has been carefully restored to show how an ordinary weaving family would have lived around 1540, offering a fascinating glimpse into the city's industrial and domestic history.

Money raised from the Halloween evenings will help support the upkeep of this remarkable building.
