Poppy Appeal 2026

The Union Flag and the Poppy Appeal Flag are flying in Dereham in support of the Royal British Legion’s 2026 Poppy Appeal.

The Poppy Appeal is the RBL’s biggest fundraising campaign held every year, during the period of Remembrance.

The Red Poppy is worn as a show of support for the service and sacrifice of our Armed Forces, Veterans and their families. It represents all those who lost their lives on active duty from the beginning of WWI up to the present day.

Donations from the sale of the RBL’s Red Poppies go directly towards helping the Armed Forces Community.

Trafalgar Day - 21 October 2026

The Union Flag and the White Ensign Flag are flying in Dereham today to commemorate Trafalgar Day.

Trafalgar Day is the celebration of the victory won by the Royal Navy, commanded by Vice Admiral Horatio Nelson, over the combined French and Spanish fleets at the Battle of Trafalgar on 21 October 1805. It was a pivotal encounter and a turning point in the war against Napoleon's France.

Before the Battle, Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson famously ordered the signal "England expects that every man will do his duty" to be sent to his fleet from his flagship, the HMS Victory.

Lord Nelson was one of the day’s casualties. He died on the decks of HMS Victory after a fatal gunshot wound.
