"Bl**dy learner drivers!!! Get out of the way! How dare you be on the road".....and because I want to show my impatience and fury at said 17 year old L plater, I'm going to literally drive right up to the bumper of their car or maybe do a manoeuvre past them that falls well short of acceptable driving standards. Like overtaking them whilst they wait to turn right or something silly like that.

It was a long time since I learnt to drive and I don't remember much of it. It was in Cornwall. The busiest it got was Truro and that's tiny compared to even Exmouth and about twice the size of Ottery.

But there are way more cars on the road now and we are all in more of a rush. We do get reports from driving instructors of bad driving but, as someone who is currently teaching a family member, its downright scary how impatient some other drivers are and the appalling manor of driving that they demonstrate. I mean, what is the point in honking impatiently?! What does that achieve?

That 'L' plate means that the driver is the newest, most nervous, least experienced, driver out there. They are going to stall. They are going to roll back. They are going to go under the speed limit. They may not say thank you as their sweaty white knuckles grip the wheel for dear life. And they are defo going to drive a ton worse when another vehicle is pressuring them. Ironically they will drive better than the people that this message is targeted at🤣

If you see an 'L' plate, give the vehicle time and space. Expect unexpected manoeuvres. Expect mistakes. Expect slow junction starts. We were all learners once.

*Putting an L on a police car is potentially opening up a line of comment comedy so Ill brace for that😉

Halloween 🎃 | Make it a treat for everyone 👻

Have a good time this Saturday, just remember that not everyone celebrates Halloween and may not want people coming to their door trick or treating.

Some people, particularly the elderly and vulnerable, may get worried or even frightened if strangers are continually calling at their door during the evening. It can also disturb babies, young children and nervous dogs and cats.

So please respect those who don’t want to take part in trick or treating, and stick to areas and people you know.

If you welcome trick or treaters, or if you’d rather they didn’t come knocking, you can download and print posters for your window that lets them know either way from our website 👉 https://orlo.uk/X3tt5

There’s a colour “Sorry – no trick or treat” poster, and a black and white printer friendly version. You’ll also find a colour “Welcome Halloween callers with children in costume” poster, and a version of that to colour in.

Retailers: you can also download a poster which lets people know that the sale of eggs and flour will be at your discretion.

Drivers

My visually impaired spy tells me that quite a lot of drivers are playing silly games on pedestrian crossings and recently, someone actually drove over her white stick!

The Highway Code (the little book you had to learn as a new driver-might be an app now!) says that vehicles must give way to pedestrians on a crossing. What that does not mean is thinking "Ah sod it she's blind, Ill just drive round her".

For a second, think about the fear that must go through a persons mind when they are mid crossing and a car approaches them and does not stop. Nah, that's not right.

If you see a person at or around a crossing, anticipate the crossing then expect to stop until the person is safely across.

Thank you in advance 👩‍🦯 😁

💊 Check an online pharmacy is registered when buying medicine online

Thousands of fake online pharmacies are operating that sell fake or unsafe medicines such as weight loss drugs that don’t work or are harmful to your health. They may be cheap, but it’s not worth the risk.

Before you buy, take a moment to check the pharmacy is registered, so you can be confident you will get medicines that are safe and right for you. All legitimate pharmacies in Great Britain have to be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.

✅ Look for the pharmacy’s registration details on the website
✅ Search for them on the official pharmacy register at the link below

It’s a simple step that will help protect your health.

We ticked over in the Exmouth and Ottery policing area today.
This morning, officers from the Exmouth Neighbourhood Policing Team and Exmouth Crime Management Team, arrested a female for public order and assault offences outside Exmouth Rail Station after an incident directed at two school girls. The arrested female had reportedly been causing issues in the public toilets there as well as distressing other passer bys. As ever, great public support from Exmouths cycling coffee man Sam, as well as local Stagecoach staff.
This afternoon, officers from Ottery Patrol and Ottery Neighbourhood Policing Team supported Exmouth patrol and Roads Policing colleauges with a confrontational incident in Cranbrook near Morrisons. It had been reported that persons had been firing fireworks at children leaving school. The arrest was challanging but the detained persons' welfare is of the utmost importance to us and we are acutly aware that it occured in front of other school kids and parents. Thank you to Morrisons staff for providing a bit of a cordon.
And now its home time until we do it all again tomorrow. Or are the 24/7 patrol team😉

Warning 💊 | Dangerous fake weight loss drugs and other medicines

Tempting as it may be to save money, using fake online pharmacies puts you at risk of serious harm – check that any pharmacy you use is legitimate at the link at the end of this post.

Fake online pharmacies can dispense medicines that are inappropriate, ineffectively dosed, or even counterfeit. These counterfeit medicines can include seriously dangerous substances such as cement and even arsenic.

It's vitally important to make sure that any pharmacy you use is registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.

How to check an online pharmacy:
1. Find the pharmacy's GPhC registration number on its website.
2. Search for the pharmacy on the official GPhC register.
3. If the pharmacy is not listed, do NOT use it.

Taking one moment to check a pharmacy's registration could save your life.

Electrifying news*

The eagle eyed out there will have spotted some new police cars around Ottery and Exmouth. I know there is a cohort of folk that are a bit more interested and I know there are folk that just see a white estate car with blue and yellow stickers - this is for the former I reckon😉 . We have one for Ottery patrol and one for Exmouth Neighbourhood team so far.
We are embracing modern times and are now buying Toyota Corolla hybrids. So not fully electric as that's not quite feasible for how we use our cars currently, but defiantly electric until you are out of town/going up Chineway/Marpol Hill, etc.
Also they have heated seats which is nice and a rare touch of luxury for a police vehicle.
Here is a picture of the Exmouth Neighbourhood Team's new car at the RTC at Blackhill Quarry yesterday. In the front you will see the evidence bag of rubbish I picked up whilst we had the road closed. I hate road side rubbish. Stop throwing your McDonalds wrappers, Monster cans, crips packets etc out of the window especially on Woodbury Common!! Otherwise we can enjoy a fairly litter free Blackhill corner for a few days.

*With headlines like that, you can see why I never had a career in journalism.

"What's this town coming to for God sake"

Well, I do love it when someone with no info at all jumps on the socials and starts shouting about a matter for which they have no knowledge.
If we all sit on social media and just speculate all the time about kids being stabbed, people fighting on war memorials, etc, then yes, the town could seem a bit dodgy.

But whilst stuff does undoubtedly happen, most of the speculated matters do not - or certainly not as they are made out anyway.

So whilst we did deal with a group of individuals last night who had a disagreement amongst themselves, no one was stabbed, no knives were seen or located and everyone went on their way. Oh and apparently there were 8 cops on scene - Ill claim that bit. That sounds like a positive!

What makes a town look bad is speculating and stressing about an incident that did not occur, on a FB page with 100k followers. We are all, as keyboard warriors, responsible for our content and how/what it portrays or could be perceived.

I would also add that a lot of street crime that occurs in or around the Exmouth area of a more violent nature, is amongst known-to-each-other individuals who lead a particular lifestyle that most of us are not part of.

Well that felt like a rant and it probably was but given you would blame me, I might as well get it off my chest😉
