🎃 Five on Friday – Friday 30th October

🍬 Pumpkin fun at Framlingham Town Council! We’ve been delighted to host Fram Fridge’s community pumpkin this week. It’s been lovely to see so many children popping in to enjoy the free sweets, with many also taking part in the free Halloween Letter Trail around town. Over 150 packets of sweets have been given away!

🚻 Pageant Field toilets Sadly, we ad to close the toilets following vandalism earlier in the week, including broken fittings and damage to the doors. We’ve reviewed the CCTV footage and passed it to the police. This is disappointing, particularly during half-term when the facilities are well used, and this mindless vandalism costs so much to repair each time. We are pleased to report the toilets were re-opened on Thursday. Thanks to our Maintenance Contractor for carrying out the repairs so promptly.

🧗 New play equipment? We have this week submitted a grant application to fund a Monkey Challenge climbing wall at Pageant Field. Thank you to everyone who supported the idea on Facebook! We will hear whether our application has been successful in February, so watch this space.

🤝 Working together On Monday, we met with representatives from Hour Community, East Suffolk Council and Havebury Housing Association to discuss reports of anti-social behaviour and how residents can get help if they experience problems with neighbours. We also talked about how to help people living on the edges of town feel more connected to the wider community. We’re planning a multi-agency drop-in and community engagement event in the new year, with more details to follow.

🏃 400+ runners take on the Castle course! Congratulations to Framlingham Flyers for hosting another successful running event on Sunday. The first race in the Suffolk XC Winter League brought more than 400 runners to town to tackle the muddy footpaths and fields around the Castle. Another fantastic event for Framlingham! Whilst on the running theme, congratulations also to the Thomas Mills parkrun team who will be celebrating their 300th event this Saturday. We hope to see some of you there, and Halloween fancy dress is encouraged this week. Parkrun is a free weekly community event.

📅 Looking ahead to next week, we have our next Town Tidy work party, a Full Council meeting and the Civic Remembrance Parade.

🎃 Finally, we wish everyone a happy Halloween!
Have fun, enjoy the spooky celebrations and stay safe if you’re out and about trick-or-treating. 👻

Sadly, the toilets at Pageant Field have had to be closed following another incident of mindless vandalism. Several items within the facilities have been damaged, including the door handle.

We are reviewing CCTV footage and will be reporting the matter to the police.

We apologise to all park users for the inconvenience caused, especially as it is half-term week.

🏡 Planning update: Victoria Mill Road
The Town Council received notification this week of revised plans and documents for the proposed 35-home development on land at Victoria Mill Road, Framlingham.
The proposals include 23 self-build/custom-build homes, 12 affordable homes, public open space, a play area and a multi-use games area.
Residents can view the revised documents and comment through the council’s Public Access planning portal, quoting reference DC/25/4170/ARM.
📅 Comments must be submitted by 10 November 2026.

🚧 Yellow Lines Consultation
We’ve received lots of comments both for and against the proposed yellow lines, along with suggestions for other locations. Thank you to everyone who has already shared their views.
We know this is a much-discussed topic on social media. However, we’re unable to see or keep track of all comments across different pages and groups. To make sure your views are included in the consultation, please submit them through the official channel, even if you have already posted online.
📧 Please email your comments to [email protected] by 31 October.
All views are welcome, and we appreciate you taking the time to have your say. 💬

💷 Budgeting for 2027–2028
This week, the Finance and Governance Committee reviewed the first draft of the Town Council’s budget for 2027–2028. The proposals take account of the priorities identified at the town meeting and the councillors’ meeting on 22 September.
Not all suggestions can be delivered within a single financial year. Those requiring more time or resources will help shape the Council’s business and strategic plan, setting out priorities for the next year, the next five years and the longer-term outlook over ten years and beyond
The draft budget will be discussed at the next Town Council meeting in November, before being reviewed again by the Finance and Governance Committee later that month. It will then return to the Town Council in December for final approval.

🤝 East Suffolk Community Partnerships Forum – Extraordinary Commitment
On Thursday, the Clerk and Deputy Clerk attended the East Suffolk Community Partnerships Forum at Woodbridge School, joining groups and organisations from across East Suffolk to learn, share ideas and make connections.
The event featured information stands showcasing local services, alongside workshops offering insights into different experiences and challenges within our communities. The Clerk and Deputy Clerk took part in the Autism Reality Experience, Game of Youth Life and a workshop on anti-social behaviour, gaining valuable knowledge to inform the Council’s work and support for residents.
The forum also provided a welcome opportunity to catch up with fellow clerks, councillors and partner organisations, strengthening the relationships that help us work together for our community.

🧱 Church Wall Update
Many of you will have noticed that work on the church wall is progressing well—and appears to be moving ahead faster than originally expected.
The recent spell of good weather has certainly helped, although the two storms forecast for this weekend may slow things down a little.
A big thank you to the builders for their hard work and fantastic progress so far! 👏

Half-Term Fun in Framlingham 🎃

We’re hoping to install a double-sided Monkey Challenge climbing wall at Pageant Field, giving local children another exciting way to get active, have fun and enjoy the outdoors.

To help us secure funding for this equipment, we need to demonstrate that there is local support for the idea.

💚 Would you, your children, friends or family enjoy using this equipment?

👍 Please like this post to show your support! Every like helps us demonstrate local interest and strengthen our case for funding.

Five on Friday – 16th October 2026 🍂

🎖️ Remembrance Parade: Final Arrangements
This week, the Clerk met with representatives of the Royal British Legion and Woodbridge Excelsior Band to finalise arrangements for the Remembrance Parade on Sunday 8 November 2026.
There will be a change to this year’s parade route to make it more manageable for veterans and band members who find the uphill walk from Bridge Street difficult. The parade will begin inside the castle grounds and make its way down to the church.
Following the church service, the parade will continue to Market Hill as usual for the final speeches and dismissal.
We warmly encourage residents to line the route and join us in remembering those who served and sacrificed. Thank you for your understanding and support as we make these changes to help everyone take part. ❤️

🌧️ Highways Forum: flooding, drainage and winter preparations
This week, we attended an online Highways Forum to hear more about measures to manage flooding and drainage, as well as plans for winter road maintenance. It was a useful webinar, giving us a better understanding of the planning, coordination and logistics involved in delivering these services.
We were advised that grit bins have now received their first fill of the year. If you spot a bin that is still empty, please let us know where it is so we can follow this up. ❄️
Please note that this update applies only to grit bins on adopted roads in and around the town.

🏆 Exploring the Local Council Awards
This week, the Clerk attended a webinar to find out more about the Local Council Awards and what taking part could involve for our council.
The session offered an opportunity to learn more about the scheme and reflect on the work we already do, as well as areas we could develop further. It also prompted us to consider how we can continue to strengthen the way we work, communicate with residents and support our community.
We will now explore the requirements in more detail and consider whether working towards an award would be a suitable next step. Whatever we decide, our focus remains on serving residents and making a positive difference to our town. 🤝

🌳 Victoria Mill Road Green Areas: Asset of Community Value
This week, the Planning Committee agreed to apply to relist the green areas on Victoria Mill Road as an Asset of Community Value.
Residents have been in touch to share how much these green spaces mean to them and why they should continue to be recognised as valued community assets. 💚
The Committee has listened to these views and is now taking the application forward. Thank you to everyone who shared their thoughts and highlighted the importance of these spaces to our community.

🎃 Halloween Trail
Looking for some half-term fun? Join our Halloween Trail around town!
The Town Council, with the help of an extremely dedicated volunteer (you know who you are!), has put together our first Halloween Trail for families to enjoy. 🧡
Pick up your trail sheet from Simpson’s Sweets, the Library or the Town Council offices, then head out to find the pumpkins in shop windows and solve the clue. 🔎
👻 Spot a purple sticker? Pop inside for an extra treat!
Once you’ve finished, return your completed trail sheet to the Library and collect your final treat. 🍬
A huge thank you to our wonderful volunteer and all the businesses taking part. Happy hunting! 🎃

Five on Friday – 9th October 2026 🍂
🚗 Co-op car parking update
A Co-op representative attended this week’s Town Council meeting to provide an update on the parking issues reported since charges were introduced.
The representative reassured councillors that the Co-op is committed to making things right and confirmed that it is addressing the situation in two ways:
· 📩 Contacting those affected: Anyone who received a parking penalty notice during the period when the tablet was not working correctly will be contacted directly.
· 🔍 Reviewing future arrangements: The Co-op is assessing what changes could be made to improve the parking arrangements.
The tablets have now been removed. Parking remains free for up to 90 minutes, with charges applying to longer stays.
The representative committed to reporting back to the Town Council within two weeks with the outcome of the review.

🏘️ Planning application: Land East of Woodbridge Road (Bellway Homes)
At this week’s Town Council meeting, councillors considered the amended planning application for Land East of Woodbridge Road, Framlingham (DC/25/3412/FUL).
It was encouraging to see so many residents at the meeting, taking the opportunity to share their ongoing concerns about the proposed development. Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the discussion.
After considering the amended application and the concerns raised, councillors unanimously agreed to maintain the Council’s original objection. The Council’s position remains unchanged following consideration of the proposed amendments.

🗺️ East Suffolk Local Plan – Call for Sites
East Suffolk Council is preparing a new Local Plan and inviting people to put forward sites for a wide range of uses, including housing, employment and other development.
The second call for sites is another opportunity to suggest land for consideration as the council develops the new plan. All submitted sites will be assessed alongside other evidence to help inform decisions about which sites to include.
Submitting a site does not guarantee that it will be included in the Local Plan or that planning permission will be granted.
⏰ Deadline: Sites must be submitted by 5pm on Monday 16 November 2026.

🌿 Community Self Help
A big thank you to the 10 volunteers who joined the Community Self Help work party at Pageant Field on Monday morning. Together, they helped clear and reclaim the ground around the roundabout, repaint the entrance gates and gather a huge pile of cuttings ready for a bonfire.
It was lovely to welcome some new faces. Everyone’s enthusiasm and willingness to get stuck in, paired with the glorious autumn sunshine, made for a really enjoyable and productive morning. ☀️
We hope to arrange a smaller weekend work party on Saturday 17th October to finish cutting back this section. Our next regular community work party is scheduled for Monday 2 November.
Please get in touch if you’d like to join us at either session. New volunteers are always welcome—the more, the merrier! 🙌

🚦 Yellow Lines Consultation
The Town Council is seeking views on proposed additional double-yellow lines on Fairfield Road, Fore Street, Mount Pleasant and College Road, aimed at improving visibility, safety and traffic flow.
We particularly welcome feedback on these locations. Additional suggestions should include a reason, photos and a simple map. Please bear in mind that new restrictions could reduce parking and increase pressure on neighbouring streets.

Another month, another community work party!
A big thank you to the 10 volunteers who joined us to start tiding up the Pageant Field before winter.
Thanks to everyone's hard work, we have reclaimed the area around the roundabout, given the entrance gates a fresh coat of paint, and have a large pile of cuttings ready for a bonfire.
It was great to welcome some more new faces, all bringing plenty of energy and enthusiasm to the morning.

We are hoping to arrange a smaller weekend work party in the coming weeks to finish cutting back some of this area, with our next regular session planned for Monday 2nd November. Please email [email protected] if you would like to join us on either of these. The more, the merrier!
