No tricks, just treats... and plenty of community engagement. 🎃

This week, officers from your Neighbourhood Policing Team spent the day at Knockhatch.

Days like these are a great opportunity for officers to listen to local concerns, answer questions and build positive relationships with the people we serve. Whether it was discussing neighbourhood issues, talking about crime prevention, or simply saying hello, it was fantastic to meet so many people!

Visible policing isn't just about responding to incidents. It's also about being accessible, approachable and understanding the issues that matter most to local people.

Thank you to everyone who stopped for a chat and took the time to speak with us. We always value hearing from our communities and working together to keep Wealden a safe place to live, work and visit.

Especially important this weekend 🕯️ 🎃

🎃🕯 It's that time of year where we often see candles used in pumpkins, decorations and displays.
👉Top tip: Use alternatives like battery-powered lights or glow sticks instead. They're much safer and still create the same effect, but remember to take care with children as these items have loose batteries.

Is Your Vision Roadworthy👀 ?

Good eyesight is essential for safe driving, in fact, around 90% of the information we use when driving is visual.

Every motorist is responsible for ensuring they meet the legal eyesight standard, including being able to read a number plate from 20 metres away.

If you struggle to read road signs, focus clearly, or are affected by glare from headlights at night, it may be time to book an eye test.

A simple eye check could make all the difference and help keep you, your passengers and other road users safe. 👓 🚔

Hallowe'en 🎃

With Hallowe'en weekend fast approaching, we're already working with local communities, shops and businesses across the district to tackle anti-social behaviour (ASB), which can often increase during the Hallowe'en period.

Residents are advised to continue to be vigilant when opening the door to strangers or unexpected callers, both on the night and in the run up to the 31st.

One way to deter unwanted trick or treaters on 31 October is to print and display the 'no trick or treaters' poster - please see link in the comments (these can also be obtained from your nearest Police Station or Police Contact Point).

If you feel unsafe

• Don’t open your door if you’re unsure who is there. Use your spyhole, look out of a window, and use your door chain if you do decide to open your door.
• Have a contact number of a close relative or good neighbour to hand by your telephone, just in case you need to phone them.
• If you are part of a Neighbourhood Watch scheme, let your coordinator know that you will be on your own at Hallowe’en. If you are a coordinator, please identity people in your scheme that may be vulnerable and offer them reassurance.
• If you are driving on the evening of the 31st, remember that excited children may be crossing the road unexpectedly, so slow down in residential areas and take extra care.

Report ASB at the time to police online or by calling 101 (all non-emergencies), and always by calling 999 in an emergency.

A bit of a wet start across the district this morning.

Please take extra care on your commute, wet roads can significantly increase stopping distances and reduce tyre grip, making it harder to react to hazards.

When driving in the rain:

-Slow down and drive to the conditions
-Leave extra space between you and the vehicle in front
-Brake smoothly and in good time, avoid sudden braking or sharp steering
-Watch out for standing water, especially on bends and in dips in the road
-Use headlights if visibility is reduced
-Make sure your tyres, lights and windscreen wipers are in good condition

Allow yourself a little more time for your journey and stay safe on the roads today.

If you come across flooding on the highway, report it to your local highways authority. If you're involved in or witness a road traffic collision contact police.

Have you witnessed anti-social driving in the Levett Road area of Polegate, particularly where it meets the Cuckoo Trail?

We'd like to hear from you.

Officers have been carrying out regular foot and mobile patrols in response to concerns raised by local residents.

Reports suggest that motorbikes have been riding at excessive speeds through the residential estate, causing concern for those living in the area and for people using the nearby Cuckoo Trail.

We understand the impact this type of behaviour can have on the community, and we are actively monitoring the area and carrying out patrols.

📞 If you witness anti-social driving, please report it to us online or via 101.

Your information could help us identify those responsible and make the area safer for everyone.
