In 2011 the park achieved Country Park Accreditation from Natural England for its facilities and services. Whatever the season, there's always lots to see and do in the park - walking, cycling, horse riding, bird watching, angling, picnicking, kite flying, jogging, wayfaring, photography, exploring the park and much more. Entry is free but a pay-and-display parking charge applies in our main car parks at the visitor centre and next to Mapperley Reservoir.

🌳 Shipley Country Park – Coppiceside Car Park update
Thank you to everyone who has shared feedback about the proposed overnight closing arrangements. We’ve listened and are working with partners and stakeholders to make the arrangements work as well as possible for park users.

Coppiceside Car Park will open from 9.00am each day. We’re also working with parkrun, junior parkrun and other partners to explore opportunities for the barrier to open earlier on certain days to support organised activities.

To give us more time to put these arrangements in place, the new overnight closing arrangements will now begin on Monday 16 November.

The changes will help reduce vehicle-related anti-social behaviour, nuisance driving and criminal damage, while keeping Shipley Country Park a welcoming and enjoyable place to visit.

Thank you for your feedback, patience and support in helping us look after the park.

From 1 November 2026, Coppiceside Car Park at Shipley Country Park will close to vehicles overnight.
It follows complaints by local residents about vehicle-related anti-social behaviour, nuisance driving and illegal off-road vehicle use as well as damage to parking machines after dark.
To help protect the park and reduce disruption for people living nearby, a barrier will be installed at the entrance to the car park on Slack Lane.
The barrier will close from 8pm to 9am between 1 April and 31 October, and from 5pm to 9am between 1 November and 31 March.
Visitors should move their car before the car park closes. An out-of-hours release service will be available for a charge.
Additional parking space is also available at Mapperley Car Park.
We thank park users for their understanding as we continue to work to keep the area safe and secure and apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
Please continue to report criminal damage, anti-social behaviour, nuisance vehicles and illegal off-road vehicle use to Derbyshire police. Call 999 if a crime is in progress or anyone is in immediate danger, otherwise report online or call 101. Information can also be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

We would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to provide feedback about our forthcoming car park opening times.

The proposed overnight closure of the car park is intended to address ongoing issues of vehicle-related anti-social behaviour, nuisance driving and criminal damage affecting Shipley Country Park and neighbouring communities.

We recognise that a number of concerns have been raised in the comments regarding the proposed opening times and the potential impact on regular park users, permit holders and organised activities, and we're considering how we can address these concerns.

This includes speaking to affected user groups and organisations to better understand any impacts and to ensure that these can be taken into account as the project progresses.

We'll update you further once we've had the opportunity to review the feedback received.
