đźš’ A busy night at Garelochhead Community Fire Station! đźš’

It was another productive drill night for the team at Garelochhead, with plenty going on and some exciting new faces joining us.

We were delighted to welcome Dylan Christie along for his first fire drill night. It was a great opportunity for Dylan to get a feel for what being part of the team is all about, experience the training environment, and see firsthand the commitment and teamwork involved in being a firefighter. We look forward to seeing him progress over the coming weeks! 👨‍🚒🔥

We were also pleased to have four of our six current applicants join us as they continue through the recruitment process. The evening gave them an insight into what they can expect should they successfully progress, including the training, practical drills, teamwork and challenges that come with the role.

It was fantastic to see everyone getting involved, asking questions and getting a real taste of life within the fire service.

There’s a lot of hard work ahead for our applicants, but nights like this are a great opportunity to see what being part of the Garelochhead team is all about.

A big thank you to everyone who took part and helped make it another successful drill night. 🚒👏

Interested in joining us? Keep an eye out for future recruitment opportunities and come along to find out more about becoming part of your local community fire station.

🔥 GARELOCHHEAD — WE NEED YOU! 🚒

Have you ever thought about becoming an On-Call Firefighter with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service?

Garelochhead is one of the Service’s strategically important stations, providing a vital emergency response to the local community and surrounding areas. To maintain that response, we need people from the local community to step forward.

Being an On-Call Firefighter is about much more than fighting fires. You could be called upon to attend road traffic collisions, fires, rescues, flooding and other emergencies, helping people when they need it most.

Why become an On-Call Firefighter?

🔥 Make a genuine difference to your local community
🤝 Become part of a highly trained and supportive team
đź’Ş Develop your fitness, confidence and resilience
🧠 Learn valuable skills including first aid, rescue and emergency response
📚 Receive full training — no previous firefighting experience is required
đź’· Get paid for your training, availability and operational response
đźš’ Gain skills and experience that can benefit you both personally and professionally
❤️ Most importantly, be there for your community when it matters most

Could you be eligible?

You generally need to:

âś… Be 18 or over
âś… Have the right to work in the UK
âś… Be able to reach Garelochhead Fire Station within the required response time
âś… Have the required level of fitness and meet the relevant medical/vision standards
âś… Be able to provide the required availability
âś… Be willing to undertake training and ongoing development

You don’t need to be a firefighter already. SFRS will train and support you throughout the process.

Being an On-Call Firefighter can fit around work, family and other commitments, making it an ideal opportunity for people who want to give something back while developing themselves.

Garelochhead needs people who are willing to step forward.

Could you be one of them?

đźš’ Join the team. Protect your community. Make a difference.
