With some unsettled weather continuing into the start of this weekend, here are a few things you can do to be prepared, especially in the event of a power cut:

âś… Charge your mobile phone, tablet and any other essential devices
âś… Keep a torch handy and make sure you know where it is
âś… If you rely on electrically powered medical equipment, make sure you have a plan in place if there is a power cut
âś… Keep your fridge and freezer doors closed as much as possible during any outage
âś… Secure any loose items in your garden, balcony or outdoor space that could easily blow away
âś… Take extra care when travelling and avoid unnecessary journeys during severe weather
âś… Remember to check in on neighbours who may need extra support

If you experience a power cut, stay calm. Most outages are resolved as quickly as possible by your local electricity network operator. You can call 105 free of charge to report a power cut or get updates. You can also check what's happening in your area on the UK Power Networks website: https://www.ukpowernetworks.co.uk/.

Last week, our team attended Horsham District Council's Winter Warm up event at Chanctonbury Leisure Centre.

We had the opportunity to speak with customers about housing-related issues, including homelessness and retirement housing options, while also networking with other local services and organisations. There was a great atmosphere throughout the event, and the homemade sweet potato soup and cakes went down very well!

Events like this are a great reminder of the importance of bringing communities and support services together. Thank you to everyone who came and said hello!

Earlier this week, colleagues from Saxon Weald teamed up with Groundscapes Limited, Jewson Partnership Solutions, Niblock Building Contractors and Carbon3 to improve the outdoor space at Horsham Youth Centre.

Working together, volunteers spent the day weeding, sweeping, trimming and refreshing the outdoor areas. Their efforts helped create a cleaner, safer and more welcoming space for everyone. By the end of the day, the transformation was clear, but there is still more to come.

Over the next few weeks, further improvements will include cutting back trees, refurbishing the centre’s foyer, repairing faulty lamp posts and adding new line markings to the hard court. This will allow it to be used again for basketball and football.

We are very proud to support another local project through our community engagement fund. A huge thank you to everyone who gave their time, skills and resources to help make a real difference.
