The government is expected to decide on the future of councils in West Sussex between now and early 2027, with any new councils due to take over services in April 2029.

Current proposals would replace the existing county and district or borough council system with unitary councils, each responsible for all council services in its area.

The updated timetable follows discussions with the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government. Although no final decision has been made on the future council structure for West Sussex, a decision is expected to be based on the proposals that residents and local authorities have already been consulted on.

Horsham District Council elections will take place in May 2027 using existing boundaries. Elections to any new councils (Shadow Authority elections) would follow in May 2028, giving new authorities time to prepare before taking over services in April 2029.

Cllr Martin Boffey, Leader of Horsham District Council, said:

“Although this revised timetable gives councils more time, it also means a longer period of uncertainty for residents, staff and local authorities across West Sussex."

Don't let the soft shimmer fool you. Sparklers burn at temperatures higher than a blow torch, so always supervise children and use them safely.

🌳 New Trees at Charrington Way Recreation Ground! 🌳

We’re delighted to share some photos of our freshly planted trees at Charrington Way Recreation Ground!

Although the trees may look small at the moment, great things take time to grow.

It will take a little patience for the trees and surrounding greenery to establish, flourish and create the beautiful green space we are hoping to achieve.

Over the coming years, we look forward to seeing the area transform into a greener, more welcoming environment for everyone to enjoy.

👻 Halloween is almost here! 🎃

Whether you’re dressing up, heading out, or trick-or-treating, we want everyone to have a safe and enjoyable night.

Here are a few tips to help keep it fun:

🕯️ Stick with friends and plan your route home.
🍬 If you’re trick-or-treating, only knock on doors where it’s clear you’re welcome.
🚦 Stay visible – bright costumes and torches help you be seen in the dark.
📱 Keep your phone charged in case you need to contact someone.
👀 Remember, not everyone enjoys spooky surprises – be respectful of those who’d prefer a quieter evening.

Our officers (no costumes for us!) will be out across the city to keep you safe. If you need us:
👉 Report online or call 101 for non-emergencies
👉 In an emergency, always dial 999

Have a safe and happy Halloween from all of us at Horsham Police.
