The only confirmed HPAI outbreak in UK poultry this season is in Ness, Isle of Lewis. It is the outbreak that caused Great Britain to lose its HPAI-free status.”

Ness makes up roughly 0.025% of the UK's land area — about 1 part in 4,000. Yet Ness is where the UK's first premises bird-flu outbreak of the season has been confirmed, just weeks after people visited the Sula Sgeir gannet colony.

NatureScot had already identified the potential transmission of avian influenza associated with people visiting Sula Sgeir as a biosecurity risk, yet still gave permission for a film crew to visit the colony.

This does not establish that the visit caused the outbreak — but given the known transmission risk, the timing and location warrant serious investigation.

NatureScot and the relevant authorities should now publish the evidence surrounding that decision, explain exactly what biosecurity measures were required and followed, and establish whether any epidemiological link exists between the visit and the outbreak.

There must be full transparency, a proper investigation and accountability for any failures that may have occurred.

Interesting that folk have just been out to sula sgeir a few weeks ago to film, I did several posts this year on the obvious dangers of visiting a colony effected by bird flu. Hmmmm
Not only is the bird flu case in Lewis but it's actually in Ness itself.

Another nail in the coffin

The fight to ban the Guga hunt took another step forward this morning, as MSPs agreed to keep the record-breaking petition open, much to the dissatisfaction of pro-hunt MSP Donald MacKinnon who tried to have it shut down.

There seems to be a lot of focus on me having a beard as a man which I find strange especially as all the comments are from men so I want to share this vid for all the young lads on here with two mums who want to have a beard but are witnessing the beard hatred.
I met these awesome guys.
