Women & Girls in Sport Week starts tomorrow!

Our Active Schools team has planned a fantastic programme of FREE sessions for girls across Aberdeenshire next week.

These sessions are designed for girls who would like to try something new, meet new friends and boost their confidence and wellbeing in a fun and supportive environment.

📍 Sessions are taking place in Portlethen, Mearns, Aboyne, Banchory, Fraserburgh, Banff, Deveron, Inverurie and Westhill.

Activities include Netball, Volleyball, Football, Multisport, Teen Gym and more!

Come along, have fun, make new friends and discover a new activity you enjoy.

Learn to Swim Update

Parent's will be aware that owing to the global PHP vulnerability, we took the system used to manage swimming lessons offline, including the swim school parental HomePortal. We would like to reassure parents and carers that there has been no data breach and no cyber attack. The action taken was purely precautionary and in line with Aberdeenshire Council's IT security procedures.

While this system is offline, lesson payments, moves between classes and progress updates through the HomePortal remain unavailable. Unfortunately the HomePortal cannot be re-instated and will remain offline until our new learn to swim platform is launched, we had already been working towards a new portal and the aim is to launch this as soon as possible, it's likely to be early 2027.

Learn to Swim lessons have been, and will continue within the Live Life Aberdeenshire venues. Swimming instructors will continue to record attendance and will move to recording progress on paper, pupil records will be updated and further information will be shared in the coming weeks.

Please note, pupils will not lose their place because payments cannot currently be made online.

We will provide a further update to parents and carers in the coming days and if you have any questions, please contact your local pool.

As another Live Life Outdoors Cycle Base holiday programme has passed with this year’s Tattie Holiday Fun, it’s time to look back on 7 days of cycling activity across the two weeks!

We could tell you all about the Balance to Pedal sessions, the Introduction to Mountain Biking or our MTB Skills sessions at Auchenblae, or we could simply let the parents tell you what happened…..

“Amazing!! Both children couldn’t ride and within the four days they are both riding with pedals independently. I had tried at home, but this way they get the help they need, and they listen. The kids loved it and are so proud they have managed to ride.”

“Excellent session provided, thoroughly enjoyed by my 11-year-old son, he says he enjoyed it all but mostly the bike riding around the woods and playing on the ramps etc and is looking forward to hopefully attending the next sessions during the Easter holidays. Many thanks again to the instructors. Another positive was that my son made friends with two other boys at that session and we had lunch with them and one of their parents afterwards.”

“Having the option to attend a girl’s only session was one of the main reasons she agreed to attend in the first place. She now loves Mountain Biking, and it was not something she would have been interested in before.”

Need we say anymore other than that, other than to confirm that we have lots of new cyclists after 4 days of Balance to Pedal at Mackie Academy and some enthused Mountain Bikers after two days taking on the trails at Dunnottar Woods, and finishing off at the Auchenblae Pump Track for MTB Skills. A successful two weeks in Kincardine and Mearns, how long till Easter?? 😊

We are part of the national of Sport initiative, with our October programme helping young people across Aberdeenshire get active.

Last Sunday another round of Positive Action Grant funded activity kicked off with the Online Bothy – skills development to support community activity.

The programme will continue to support cultural activity in Fyvie, Rothienorman, Tarves and Barthol Chapel through to March 2027 - Building on the skills, interests and enthusiasm already in these communities!

Keep an eye out for upcoming opportunities, events and funding with North East Arts Touring (NEAT) over the coming weeks.
