⚠️ More than 30 people have lost their lives on our roads this year.

That's why, from 17 October, Leicestershire Police safety camera vans will be carrying out seatbelt monitoring as part of a pilot road safety project.

Failing to wear a seatbelt is one of the Fatal Five behaviours most likely to result in death or serious injury. During the pilot, motorists found not wearing a seatbelt will receive a warning letter explaining the dangers.

A seatbelt is your best protection in a collision. Make sure everyone in the vehicle is buckled up before every journey.

🚔 The past few days I have been covering response side by going to various jobs such as domestic incidents, dog incidents and other jobs.

Whilst responding to incidents on blue lights, we've seen some excellent driving from members of the public, but also some actions that could have serious consequences.

If you see blue lights:

✅ Stay calm
✅ Check your mirrors
✅ Signal clearly
✅ Move over when safe and legal

❌ Don't stop suddenly
❌ Don't panic
❌ Don't drive through a red light unless directed by a police officer

Your actions can make a real difference in helping emergency services reach those in need safely and quickly. Thank you to everyone who helps us keep the roads safe.

These plates have been adapted to avoid their details being identified by automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) systems, which are used to enforce speed limits and low emission zones, as well as track criminals.

Illegal registration plates are far too easy to get hold of and are putting the public at risk, BBC is told.

🚓🔥 Road safety takes centre stage at County Hall

A big thank you to everyone who stopped by the Visitor Car Park to meet the teams from Speed or Safety and Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service

Politicians and Leicestershire County Council staff had the chance to take a closer look at Leicestershire Police speed camera van, learn how speed enforcement helps keep our roads safe, and challenge some common myths about speed cameras.

Visitors also experienced Hazard Express, an immersive virtual reality road safety presentation highlighting the dangers of speeding, drink and drug driving, mobile phone distraction, and not wearing a seatbelt.

It was a fantastic opportunity to learn more about the work taking place to make our roads safer for everyone.
