Thank you to the FORMBY & FRESHFIELD Beach Litter Angels 😇 for gathering up this large pile of used fireworks from the Devil’s Hole area, and to our Ranger team for collecting them this morning.

As we head into bonfire season, please help us spread the word that fireworks aren’t permitted anywhere at NT Formby or along the .

This is to help reduce the risk of wildfires and keep people, wildlife and grazing cattle safe.

Thank you for your support. Together we can keep Formby safe and special for everyone.

This week we're welcoming some new arrivals to the Lancashire Wildlife Trust herd grazing here at Formby, with a total of 18 cattle expected to be on site by the end of the week.

It's an exciting time for the herd as they settle in, explore their new surroundings and get to know each other.

As the daylight hours get less it’s time for us to switch to winter opening times for the toilets at both car parks.

From Monday 2 November you’re welcome to use the toilets anytime between 9.30am and 4.00pm daily.

We’ve listened to your feedback and are opening the toilets a little earlier and closing them later than in previous winters.

You'll probably have a pumpkin or two lying around now that Halloween is over, but please don't bring them to NT Formby. Here's why:

🐿 Leftover pumpkins can increase the spread of squirrel pox by encouraging squirrels to feed together, leading to cross-contamination of food.

🦔 Pumpkins can be harmful to some wildlife, acting as a laxative to young hedgehogs.

🌱 Rotting pumpkins add excess nutrients to the ground, encouraging the growth of nettles instead of precious dune plants and flowers.

𝐓𝐫𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐟𝐮𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐜𝐨-𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐥𝐲 𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐝:

♻️Turn your pumpkins into tasty treats.

♻️Bury them in your garden for worms and other invertebrates to enjoy.

♻️Compost them or pop them in your green waste bin.

Victoria Road car park and all toilets have reopened after the stormy weather, and our tree safety work is complete.

If you’re planning a visit on foot during or just after high winds please take extra care, stick to open spaces and keep away from woodland areas. High winds can cause loose branches to fall and may affect the stability of some trees.

Car park closure

Owing to the risks of flooding due to a combination of large waves, tidal surges and strong onshore wind from Storm Boelo, as well as spring tides, the Burbo Bank car park at Hall Road West will be closed this evening and will stay closed through Sunday.

We also advise people to avoid using the promenade if waves are breaking over it.

Please take care if you are planning on visiting our beautiful - but at times wild - coast.

💨High winds forecast 💨
The Met Office have issued a yellow weather warning for high winds. For the safety of visitors, volunteers and staff the Victoria Road car park and all toilets will be closed from this afternoon and all day tomorrow (the 25th)

We hope to be able to re-open by Monday 26th and will share updates here.

Please bear with us as before we can open we will need to carry out tree safety checks. This can only be done once the wind gusts have reduced.

We're sorry for any impact this may have on your plans to visit. If you decide to venture out on foot, please take extra care, stick to open spaces and keep away from woodland areas. High winds can cause loose branches to fall and may affect the stability of some trees.

Thank you for your support and understanding.

It’s because they’re specially trained to be safely contained using a virtual fencing system.

Each animal wears a GPS collar that gently guides them with sound cues, allowing them to graze freely while staying within invisible boundaries.

Using NoFence technology, the cattle can graze hard to reach areas of the rolling dunes without the need for extensive fencing. Helping us restore more of this special landscape while keeping it open and accessible for everyone.

The team at Lancashire Wildlife Trust monitor the cattle’s location and wellbeing in real time using GPS and smartphone technology, ensuring they are happy, healthy, and safe.

We’re also really grateful to the local team of volunteers who check the herd daily.

This technology is designed with animal welfare in mind - allowing the cattle to graze in a more natural and relaxed environment, reducing stress levels.

Thanks to Phil Chapman from BBC North West we managed to capture the tech in action whilst out and about filming earlier this year.

It’s great to see the steer react so calmly, confidently and quickly to the redirection.
