Band of the Coldstream Guards

🎶 Sergeant Nick Mott joined the Band of the Coldstream Guards in 2010 and has since given 16 years of exemplary service, establishing himself as a highly accomplished and respected musician.

Having begun his musical journey in brass bands as a cornet player, Sergeant Mott has developed into a musician of exceptional ability. He currently serves as Principal Trumpet of both the Band of the Coldstream Guards and the Household Division Orchestra, leading the trumpet section at numerous high-profile events. These have included the concert marking the late Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Jubilee, and the Coronation Concert of His Majesty King Charles III. He also performed as part of the fanfare team at Westminster Abbey for the State Funeral of Queen Elizabeth II. Recent high profile tasks include performing Last Post and Reveille on the King’s Birthday Parade in 2025 and again on the Major General’s Review in 2026.

Throughout his career, Sergeant Mott has represented the Army and the United Kingdom on the international stage, undertaking tours to Switzerland, France, Germany, Italy, Algeria, South Korea, China, and multiple visits to Japan, where he has frequently appeared as a soloist. He is a regular soloist with both band and orchestra and has featured in numerous recordings.

Alongside his military career, Sergeant Mott graduated from the Royal College of Music in 2021 with a Bachelor of Music degree, achieved with the support of the Army. He continues to perform as a freelance musician with leading orchestras in the UK, further enhancing the reputation of British Army Music.

In addition to his musical achievements, Sergeant Mott is known for his professionalism, high standards, and approachable nature, earning respect from peers and juniors alike. Away from duty, he is a proud supporter of Chelsea Football Club, an accomplished skier and a devoted family man to his wife Cara and daughters Maisie and Phoebe.

Sergeant Mott’s long and distinguished service reflects great credit upon himself, the Band of the Coldstream Guards, and the British Army. He is therefore a most deserving recipient of the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal.

🎶 Royalty, remembrance and rain!

It has been a busy time for the band as we approach the summer season! Last week we played at the service of the most distinguished Order of St Michael and St George at St Paul's Cathedral, attended by His Majesty The King, the Duke of Kent and members of the Order.

On Sunday the band took part in the regimental Black Sunday, an opportunity for the Regiment to remember their fallen.

Tuesday saw the band in the garden of Buckingham Palace playing for a garden party. It was a pleasure to meet our Honorary Deputy Colonel Commandant Rob Rinder, as well as representatives from Brass for Africa. Not even the rain could dampen spirits!
