The Labour Budget this 28th October looks set to hike more taxes.
But your family home shouldn't be taxed and we have written to the Chancellor calling on him to scrap the High Value Council Tax Surcharge (better known as the MansionTax), a pernicious tax on family homes in Wimbledon.

Daniel dropped in to visit the new Wimbledon Repair Cafe at St Mark's Church, a new scheme set up by the Vicar Jane Andrews https://www.stmarkswimbledon.org.uk/ and Merton Friends of the Earth

Really great idea to have items repaired that otherwise would be binned.

Road traffic collision in Hillside, Wimbledon this morning around 10am, all roads through the crossroads at St George's, Alexandra Road, Wimbledon Hill and Wimbledon Bridge are closed pending police investigation.

Current predicted reopening is approx 1.45pm.

All buses on diversion.

We hope the injured person will make a swift recovery.

It's been a busy weekend in Hillside.

We've had the Open House Weekend, where our Daniel visited St Mark's Wimbledon, St John's Spencer Hill, Sacred Heart Catholic Church and 15 Edge Hill to see a house blending late Victoria's architecture with modern design.

Daniel also went to the ever popular Abundance Wimbledon Fruit Day at St Mark's Church and sampled lots of cake and fruit products.

Finally visiting the 19th Community of Woodside

There was also an and the Wimbledon and Putney Commons

We've also heard great news that National Trust have acquired 22 Parkside, Wimbledon https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/london/22-parkside which is good news to help preserve this special house (Daniel visited it many years ago when Richard Rogers himself used to do tours, very interesting and intriguing architecture).

If you walk to Wimbledon train station along St George's Road, note that 1 side the pavement is closed due to building works at St George's House West (near the entrance to the old car park).

Beware crossing the road on the corner by the Francis Grove GP Surgery as this road is very busy.

Thames Water are setting up this morning for sewer replacement works on Worple Road.

This seems to be a weak spot in the network as they have done these same works a few years ago at the same point.

Expect some traffic delays.

Emergency Roadworks Lower Downs Road

There has been a water leak for a few days now.
Thames Water are on site fixing it and replacing an old lead pipe with a new plastic pipe.

Road between it's junction with Ethelbert and Southdown Roads is closed but the tunnel is open.

NOTE
Merton Council are due to start road resurfacing Monday 17th August so Thames Water will need to finish their repair by Tuesday.
17-19th the whole of Lower Downs Road including the tunnel will be CLOSED

Well done to all the young students on their A-Level, and T-Level results today.

🥳 We were thrilled to celebrate with our pupils who received their A Level, Vocational, Technical and T Level results today.

Results in Merton yet again exceeded the national pass rate at A-level, with T-level students achieving an impressive 100% pass rate. Congratulations to everyone on their achievements! 🌟

🚧⚠ Lower Downs Road Resurfacing🚧⚠

Assuming weather permits, the roadworks will begin on Monday 17th August 2026 and be carried out over three consecutive days between the hours of 8am and 6pm each day, by the Merton Council contractor FM Conway.
This is the full length of the road from it's junction at Kingston Road , through the tunnel and up to the traffic lights at Worple Road.

Pedestrian access will be maintained where possible, but will be limited when machines are working in the tunnel.
Daniel recommends you take a different walk route over the pedestrian bridges instead.

Watch out for parking bays being suspended, please adhere to these as they can and do kick in BEFORE the hours of the CPZ.
