Reform fight asylum fraud in Manchester 🚨

Yesterday we successfully got a motion passed on the issue of “Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children”. Or more specifically, those pretending to be children. Last year 48% of all child asylum referrals to Manchester were found to be adults.

Labour’s amendment heavily watered down the motion but our request for transparency on the numbers of child claimants found to be adults was kept in. The motion was passed unanimously!

MANCHESTER REFORM ACTS TO FIGHT FRAUD AND PROTECT THE CHILDREN'S SERVICES BUDGET 🚨‼️

In a unanimous cross-party vote in the Manchester council Chamber, all Members from all parties voted to support the Motion submitted by the Reform Councillors designed to raise the issue of and try to tackle UASC fraud.

Earlier this summer, Reform UK "called-in" a Key Decision to spend £6m on asylum accommodation in North Manchester, and discovered during the process that there are an alarming number of adults coming to Manchester claiming to be “Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children” or UASCs, i.e. under 18.

In 25/26, 48% of all UASC referrals in Manchester were found to be ADULTS fraudulently claiming to be children.

Why do they do this? Because if an asylum seeking person under 18 arrives in Manchester, there is a statutory duty to care for them. As long as they are 'in care', i.e. in shared youth accommodation, a children's home or a foster home, for 13 weeks, they are entitled on reaching 18, to: fully supported living, a dedicated support worker, structured immigration related support, legal representation, health services, emotional well being support, life skills help, support to Band 1 housing status.

The Labour group put forward an amendment to our motion which heavily watered down the original text, but which we accepted as we felt the Motion was important to pass.

Crucially, our request for more transparency, regular reporting on the numbers and how many child claimants are found to be adults was kept in and the amended motion passed unanimously.

It is a small step but it is most certainly in the right direction.

We will continue to demand transparency and stand up for best value for the residents of Manchester.

Manchester Labour asleep on the job! 😴

I must admit, I often find it boring listening to Labour & Green councillors playing pretend United Nations in the chamber, instead of focusing on improving services for the people we represent. However, having a nap at the taxpayer’s expense is a bit cheeky.

I’ve made a note to bring in some matchsticks for Cllr Fletcher at the next meeting! 👀

Last month’s full council meeting was an interesting one. The Greens put forward a motion to tackle the rise of the ‘far right’.

The motion was put forward just a week after the brutal killing of Reform UK spokeswoman Ann Widdecombe, yet this did not stop the Greens from describing us as the ‘far right’ and making direct comparisons to the N***s. Pretty tasteless.

As you can see by the giggling coming from the Green benches, it’s quite clear they are not interested in condemning all kinds of violence. Instead they want to silence legitimate concerns around immigration.

Safe to say the Manchester City Reform group did not support the motion and we will continue to stand up for the British people. You can watch my contribution below ⬇️

Comparing Reform UK (and by extension our supporters and voters) to N***s is not only incredibly lazy, it is also extremely dangerous. It is this kind of casual demonisation by the left that leads to direct threats on our lives.

It is not racist or “far-right” to call for immigration controls and the deportation of people who have broken into our country. That is the majority view of the British people.

Your 7 Reform Manchester councillors were not elected to go along with the status quo. We will always stand up for the truth, no matter how uncomfortable that makes Manchester City Council feel.

Emotions ran high during a debate about the far right.
