👏 A HUGE THANK YOU TO MAYOR CLAIRE WARD AND HER FANTASTIC TEAM! ❤️

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Mayor Claire Ward and her fantastic team at the East Midlands Combined County Authority for visiting Shirebrook, recognising the potential of our town and supporting investment in its future.

Their enthusiasm, commitment and willingness to work with our community are greatly appreciated.

This investment represents an exciting opportunity to make a real and lasting difference to Shirebrook, particularly for our children, young people and future generations.

We look forward to working together to turn these exciting plans into reality and seeing the positive changes they will bring to our town.

Thank you for believing in Shirebrook and helping us build a brighter future! 💚

🚫 BOAT Application – Council Objection Update
Shirebrook Town Council has submitted a formal objection to BOAT Application Claim 03076 (Ref 24410), which proposes allowing full motorised access on the route from Wood Lane Junction (near Woodland Farm) to the Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire border.
After reviewing evidence from residents and local groups, the Council does not support this proposal. Key reasons include:
• The route has historically been used by walkers, cyclists and horse riders, not lawful public motor vehicles. • Motor vehicles seen there are linked to farm access, fly tipping, county line activity and anti social off road biking. • The route already has a TRO and PSPO due to known risks. • It forms part of the Archaeological Way and Bolsover Loop, both intended for non motorised recreation. • The route leads directly to the Bath Lane SSSI, a sensitive area with springs, marshland and a ford that is prone to flooding. • The surface and old railway bridge cannot safely support regular motorised traffic. • Local groups wish to reinstate gates to protect the SSSI and reduce fly tipping — BOAT status would prevent this. • Allowing motorised access would create a legal corridor for groups already linked to anti social behaviour, increasing risks for children, dog walkers, horse riders and vulnerable users.
For these reasons, the ST Council has asked Derbyshire County Council to refuse the BOAT application and keep the route non motorised to protect residents, the environment and our established recreational spaces.

You may have noticed this week that the barriers stopping traffic from travelling around the market square on market days haven’t been put in place.

For the foreseeable future traffic will navigate the square in line with the pedestrianisation restrictions enforced by Derbyshire County Council, Shirebrook Town Council are in contact with the local authorities to help police the situation in the form of traffic wardens and potential police presence.

Shirebrook Town Council are looking at the different options available to make the market square as safe as possible for everyone, as we receive any updates, we’ll make members of public aware.
