As some of you will know, I have been working with Land & Waste and Education & Children’s Services at NLC to support getting the damaged gates reinstated in the fence around the park at Mossend Primary School - the park has been used as an unofficial enclosed dog run for some time.
The Council has since been clear that they will not support a dog park - there is no similar resource across North Lanarkshire where a dog park has been supported by the Council.
Education & Children’s Services who are responsible for the park are considering how the School may use this park again in the future and reserve the right to keep this area clear. The park is the responsibility of NLC and there is concern about the safety of children in the vicinity of dogs. There is also concern about antisocial behaviour around the park area and the impact this is having on neighbouring properties.
The safety of makeshift fencing that has appeared at the site in recent weeks is also a concern.
I understand the gates will be replaced by NLC but will be locked going forward. This area will continue to be monitored by the Council and members of the public will no longer have access.
I understand some dog walkers who use the park will be disappointed by this update but, as a local Councillor, I remain committed to providing updated information, favourable or otherwise.
I’ve been advised by Education & Children’s Services that the replacement gates need to be custom made and will be installed in due course.
