What a great month this is shaping up to be!
The Parish Council has been successful with THREE recent grant applications. These grants will all make our village a better place and we’re thrilled to update you.
The first of these three grants was secured to enable solar panels and battery storage to be fitted at the Community Centre. This is a £40,000 project with £30,000 being from the grant. We hope to deliver this early in 2027 enabling us to benefit from a summer of sunshine. This project will reduce the electricity we buy in – good for our budget and good for the environment.
The second is a grant of nearly £10,000 for further work to the Chet Meadow wildflower project. This funding will allow us to install fencing, gates, benches, and paths to improve the meadow’s ecology and visitor appeal. Work is already underway and will continue over the next few months.
Leaving the best until last. We’ve been awarded a grant of £500,000 to provide the long-awaited skate park, plus a pump track and paths across the community land. The Council has long been aware that teenagers aren’t well catered for, and this project will help to address that. The path network will provide easier access to the area for a wide range of people. The Community Land is a massive asset to Poringland and the grant award is fantastic news.
The Council would like to thank all those who have helped to secure these grants. In particular, South Norfolk District Council, Cllr Lisa Overton-Neal, Cllr John Overton, and the team leading the Chet Meadow wildflower project.
And, as a footnote, we expect work on the new Mulberry Green play area to begin in mid-November. 😊
