Since winning control of Staffordshire County Council in May 2025, Reform has now seen four group leaders, with Martin Murray the latest to resign.

Staffordshire residents deserve stability, accountability and leadership focused on delivering for our communities, not a revolving door at the top.

The future of Stafford Borough Council’s Labour–Green–Independent coalition is now facing serious questions.

Andy Burnham has said Labour cannot support a partnership with a party holding the position recently adopted by the Greens. Bridget Phillipson has gone further, warning that local power-sharing arrangements will end if Green groups cannot provide the necessary assurances.

So where does this leave Stafford Borough Council?

Will Councillor Doug Rouxel and his group condemn their party’s motion, or will Labour’s leadership be prepared to put the future of the coalition at risk by continuing to work with them?

As the official opposition, the Conservatives will continue to hold the council’s leadership to account. The people of Stafford deserve clarity on where their representatives stand.
