What we’ll do...

We’ll confirm it’s us. If you see a Sunderland City Council or SunderlandUK account online, you can check it’s us. We’ll list our social media accounts on our website here www.sunderland.gov.uk

We’ll listen We’ll read all messages and respond to them, providing help and support, or by sign posting you to key information on our website. If there a problem, we’ll look to flag-up with the most relevant part of the organisation. We’re keen to hear from you. We’ll treat each message with the politeness you’d expect if you were dealing with us face-to-face or on the telephone. What we’d like you to do in return...

We’d like you to be polite. We know that sometimes things don’t go to plan and you’ll want to flag things up with us. But do remember, we’re human and the person monitoring the social media account is only trying to help. So are other people who use social media. We’d like you not be anti-social. We won’t tolerate swearing, threats or abuse online just as we don’t offline, any posts or comments that a defamatory or slanderous against an individual or those that will cause offence. We won’t deal with your query on social media. We’ll direct you to other channels instead. We’d like you not to be personal. If you’ve a complaint to make we’ll look into it. We’ll point you towards our complaints page https://www.sunderland.gov.uk/complaints

We’d like you not to spam or advertise. Our social media channels aren’t the place for followers to advertise. Making the same points over and over - otherwise known as spamming - isn’t for our social media. You’ll be better off contacting us another way so we can look into the issue for you. We’d like you to not over-share. If you’ve got an issue we’ll happily look into it. But be careful not to post private information about yourself or others. Of course, most of the time social media works fine but on the rare occasion where you don’t stick to the house rules, we use profanity filters which automatically hide offensive posts or comments, and we reserve the right to delete offending content and block you from contacting us through that route. We also reserve the right to contact the police

🔥Help us prevent deliberate wheelie bin fires 🗑
Deliberately setting fire to wheelie bins is not harmless fun. It can put people at risk, cause significant damage, and is a criminal offence.
We're working closely with Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service Northumbria Police and local housing providers to tackle the issue, but we need your help too.
✅If possible, put your bin out by 7.30am on your collection day rather than the night before
✅ Bring your bin back onto your property as soon as it has been emptied
🤳 You can report deliberate fires and illegal bonfires anonymously to Firestoppers online at https://orlo.uk/1gXAO or by calling 0800 169 5558.
🤳 You can also report unlit bonfires to us online at https://orlo.uk/qAuEK or by calling 0191 520 5550.
Working together, we can help keep our neighbourhoods safe.

🚨 IMPORTANT MESSAGE – ST MATTHEW’S FIELD 🚨

A play park is for playing, not vehicles!

We are reminding young people and parents that the use of e-scooters, e-bikes and motorcycles is not permitted at St Matthew’s Field.

The park is a place for children, families and the wider community to enjoy safely. The use of these vehicles in the area puts other park users at risk and can cause genuine concern for local residents.

To tackle this ongoing issue, the Community Safety Team and Operation Capio have increased patrols in the area. We have also:

✅ Carried out leaflet drops to make residents aware of the issue.

✅ Erected new signage clearly highlighting that these vehicles are not permitted on the land.

✅ Increased our presence to deter illegal and unsafe use of vehicles.

⚠️ A WARNING TO PARENTS AND YOUNG PEOPLE

Please be aware that vehicles being used illegally on the land may be seized. This is not an empty warning, and enforcement action will be taken against those identified choosing to ignore the restrictions.

To parents and guardians: please speak to your children about where they can and cannot ride these vehicles. Allowing them to use e-scooters, e-bikes or motorcycles in prohibited areas could have serious consequences.

To our young people: we understand that riding can be enjoyable, but it needs to be done legally, responsibly and in the right places. Please respect the rules and think about the safety of others.

Let’s work together to keep St Matthew’s Field Play Park safe, welcoming and enjoyable for everyone.

Your cooperation and support are appreciated.

🚫 Tackling anti-social behaviour in Ryhope 🚫

The East Community Safety Team have secured a partial closure order for a property at Lynthorpe, Ryhope!

Sunderland City Council officers worked alongside Northumbria Police and Gentoo to close a property following reports of anti-social behaviour linked to the address!

An application was submitted this week and today a partial closure order was granted at court! This order limits who can access the property and anyone else who attempts to gain entry risks arrest🚓

This outcome is a great example of how partnership working can help make communities a safer and more enjoyable place to live💚
