A prolific shoplifter has been handed an extra year on his Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) as he continued to offend.
Gareth Jones, of Willowfield in Telford, was given the extension of 12 months at Telford Magistrates Court on Friday 23 October.
The 40-year-old was given a five-year CBO in October 2025, which meant he could not enter the following stores:
- ASDA Malinsgate, Telford
- B&M on Telford Forge Retail Park
- Co-Op on Grange Avenue, Stirchley
- Sainsbury's on Telford Forge Retail Park
- Spar on Acorn Way, Telford
- Morrisons in Lawley
- Morrisons in Springhill, Telford
- B&M on English Walls, Oswestry
- B&M on Telford Forge Retail Park
- Boots on Church Street, Oswestry
- Co-op on Bank Farm Road, Shrewsbury
- Tesco on White Lion Meadow, Whitchurch
- TK Maxx on Meole Brace Retail Park, Shrewsbury
- Co-op on Morris Central Shopping Park
The extension has also meant that three extra stores were added to order, meaning Jones is also banned from entering:
- Any Tesco store in Telford
- Any Co-op store in Telford
- Waitrose in Newport
As part of the CBO Jones must also not act in a aggressive manner towards members of the public or store staff, and he must not refuse to leave a retail premises when asked to do so.
Inspector Rich Jones said: "These orders are an important tool that help us tackle persistent offending and protect businesses, their staff and the wider public.
"Despite already being subject to a CBO, Jones continued to offend, leaving us with no option but to apply for an extension and seek additional restrictions through the courts.
"We know the impact repeat offending can have on retailers and their employees, and we hope this extended order sends a clear message that we will take action against those who repeatedly engage in criminal and antisocial behaviour.
"We will continue to work closely with local businesses and our partners to ensure Telford remains a safe place to live, work and shop."
Jones' CBO will now run until October 2031. Anyone who sees Jones breaching his CBO should report it to us by calling 101 or via our website at https://orlo.uk/AN3zB
