The cold weather has arrived but there is still lots you can do to create a haven for Thatcham's wildlife! Check out our tips for November below:

1. Where possible, leave ivy alone as the flowers it will produce provide a great source of nectar and pollen for late flying insects, including honey bees on sunny days.🐝
2. Dead wood can have just as much life as other green, living areas of your outside space and it can easily be turned into a wildlife habitat!
You could make a log pile or go one step further and create a log wall or dead hedge. For other decaying matter consider creating a compost heap!🪵
3. If you a safe outside space to create a pond, no matter how big or small, now is a great time to start! Ponds provide a useful habitat and water source for garden wildlife.🐸
4. Feed the birds energy and fat rich food such as suet to help them keep warm. Don't forget to clean your bird feeders to reduce spread of any bird flu or disease.🐦‍⬛
5. Don't forget to check what may already be growing by using a plant identifier app or borrow a plant book from the Thatcham Library - you might be surprised to see what you can find!🔎

Good morning!

We walked Max at a local cemetery the other afternoon and I came across this postbox, put there by Thatcham Town Council

I have no idea what they do with the letters. I guess it is therapeutic to write and post them and that is enough. It did make me wonder if it is someone's job to collect and read the letters, though. What a beautiful thing. It quite moved me.

I have never seen anything like this. Do you think all cemeteries and crematoriums should have one?
