Weekly Ward Update: Working Hard for Orford! 🌹✨
It’s been another incredibly busy and productive week working on your concerns, road safety, and environmental issues across Orford, alongside my wider council responsibilities.
Here is a quick look at what’s been happening this week:
🚸 School Parking & Road Safety
Road safety around our schools remains a top priority. This week, I met with school staff and our local PCSO to address unsafe parking at Beamont Primary, including dangerous parking on junctions and yellow zig-zags. Council enforcement has been requested, and fines have already been issued.
Following these productive discussions, we've identified potential improvements around Beamont Primary, St Ann’s, and Meadowside, including looking into additional double yellow lines, reviewing existing zig-zags, and involving the Council’s Highways team.
I’ve also raised parking concerns near St Margaret’s School with enforcement teams and our PCSO. Additionally, I’m continuing to pursue safety, equality assessments, and consultation details regarding the school crossing patrol around Norris Street/O’Leary Street.
🌳 Cleaner Neighbourhoods
• Estate Maintenance: After pushing for action on weeds and litter on a local estate, the housing provider has confirmed a full inspection will take place to tackle missed maintenance, fly-tipping, and litter. Hedge and shrub pruning is also scheduled!
• Dorothea Street Success: I am delighted to report that two abandoned cars on Dorothea Street have finally been removed! While legal processes mean these wins aren't always a quick fix, persistence pays off.
• Pavement & Footpath Issues: I've reported several potholes for repair. I have also referred a case of vehicle repairs being carried out on a public road/footpath for officer investigation, and an Environmental Crime Officer is set to revisit a local business obstructing a footway.
• I was informed about some lighting on Orford park not working, this has been reported to the Livewire management team.
🏡 Resident Casework
I’ve continued working hard on individual housing and neighbourhood cases, helping resolve long standing issues and ensuring residents are correctly directed to the right services when a matter falls outside the Council's direct remit.
đź’Ľ Council & Wider Responsibilities
Beyond our streets, I attended the very first Cheshire & Warrington Combined Authority Overview & Scrutiny Committee Meet & Greet.
I took part in local government finance training this week to ensure I have the best possible knowledge to support and advocate for our community.
I also attended Cheshire fire authority training on wellbeing, helping to understand what support is available for our fire colleagues.
Plenty done, plenty still to do! đź’Ş
If there’s an issue in Orford that you think I can help with, please don't hesitate to get in touch. Have a great week ahead!
