WHITWELL CEMETERY
HEALTH & SAFETY NOTICE FOR MEMORIAL OWNERS

To ensure that memorials comply with current regulations and safety standards, memorial testing is currently being conducted at Whitwell Cemetery.

Memorials that are immediate fails need to be made safe and will be laid flat in the grave space.

Memorials that have been repaired or refixed within the last four years will be excluded. However, if any issues are identified with newer memorials, memorial owners are advised that the stonemason who carried out the original repair work may remain responsible for any remedial action required.

Where issues are identified, a recommendation may be made for a further inspection within 12 to 36 months, depending on the severity of the defect.

The council will endeavour to contact memorial owners to advise them after tests have been carried out, but this may not always be possible. If you are the owner of a memorial that has been laid flat, you are advised contact a BRAMM/NAMM registered memorial mason to re-fix the memorial.

Residents facing fuel poverty and financial hardship could get support with their energy costs.
Derbyshire County Council has approved a grant of up to ÂŁ345,000 from the government's Crisis and Resilience Fund (CRF) to Marches Energy Advice .
This will provide energy relief crisis payments and pre-payment energy vouchers to residents struggling to afford their energy bills.
The funding, available until 31 March 2029, forms part of Derbyshire's wider Crisis and Resilience Fund programme, which is helping low-income households across the county manage the impact of rising living costs and build longer-term financial resilience.
Fuel poverty remains a significant issue in Derbyshire, with an estimated 12.1% of households affected, higher than the national average.

Whitwell Parish Council and Bolsover District Council's Sports Development Team are looking to start walking football and walking netball sessions as part of Whitwell’s Active Communities programme.
We need Whitwell residents to have their say on when they'd like these sessions to be held.
Walking football will be held at Welbeck Street Recreation Ground and walking netball will be held at Bakestone Moor MUGA.
We are looking at holding these on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday mornings.
We would like any local residents interested in taking part to get in touch to tell us which times and days would suit you best.
Please contact Alisha Hanson, Bolsover District Council's Community Activity & Sport Activator, at [email protected] or on 01246 242572.
