Recent images showing a female Blackbird unknowingly boosting its vitamin intake for the winter by eating Hassacarr's haws, and two showing some of our plentiful gold finches drinking and bathing in the dragonfly pond.

Today we spent time clearing up some of the results of Storm Boelo, which brought down part of a willow tree into Hassacarr Pond and many other small branches. The recent rains have benefited the water level in the pond

Millennium Garden

We're now working on cutting back some of the vegetation in the Millennium Garden and continuing to dig out some of the more dominant plants. Some areas will be left for insects and reptiles to overwinter. We've been spreading some seeds and planting native bulbs so hopefully there will be a display in the spring. In managing the vegetation we're coming across huge numbers of insects as well as several frogs, none of which would be present if the area had been returned to grass. Small photo gallery attached.

The now, sadly, common sight of a dried up Hassacarr Pond, plus a fantastic shot of Common blue butterflies propagating the species and a splendid fungus near the main pond.
