Kildare is now one of the most expensive counties outside of Dublin to buy a home in. This is impacting many young workers and working families who earn too much to qualify for social housing but not enough to buy their own home.

Government must increase the income limits for social housing so more working people and families are housed. It should be housing for the common good, not just those who can afford it.

FF/FG and Independents in government are overseeing the highest level of evictions in Ireland since the Famine. I am already working with a number of workers and families who are facing homelessness because of this government’s policies.

Government must end the tsunami of people entering into homeless and get a grip on Ireland’s housing emergency.

We need an emergency no fault eviction ban now.

Today we say a final farewell to Eamon Murphy, a dedicated member of the Labour Party and a valued part of our community.

Eamon’s commitment to fairness, equality, and public service was evident in all he did. He gave his time and energy generously, always working to make life better for others and to stand up for the values he believed in.

As he is laid to rest today, we remember not only his contributions to politics, but also his kindness, integrity, and the friendships he built along the way. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Our thoughts are with Eamon’s family, friends, and comrades at this difficult time.

📣 Kildare County Council Athy MD Local Property Tax Sports Fund

Applications are now open for the Athy MD LPT Sports Fund. This fund supports the development of sports organisations across the Athy Municipal District, with a particular focus on equipment and small-scale improvements to facilities and playing pitches.

Please note the following key points for this year’s scheme:

🔹Funding is available only for sports equipment and minor works to facilities or pitches. Running costs are not eligible.
🔹The maximum grant available per application is €3,000.
🔹One large-scale capital project may be selected for funding each year.
🔹Underage, ladies, and other club sections may submit applications for equipment. However, all capital works applications must be submitted by the main club body.

📅The closing date for receipt of applications is 8th May 2026.
