It’s „White Gold“ season in Germany: The harvest started in mid-April and traditionally ends on 24 June. Germans are obsessed with white asparagus, 1.2 kg are consumed per capita annually. 18% of the total cultivation area for open-field vegetables are dedicated to asparagus. In some towns so-called “Asparagus Queens” are elected in order to be an ambassador for this precious produce. What’s your favourite recipe?

What is the true cost of sanctions for Russia? Plummeting oil and gas revenues (with Iran war windfalls offering temporary relief, not structural recovery), punishingly expensive borrowing, and the loss of key markets.

It is becoming increasingly difficult for the Kremlin to finance the war against Ukraine. Staying the course delivers results. Sanctions work.

🇩🇪🤝🇫🇷 In France, people speak of the “couple franco-allemand”, while in Germany the term “deutsch-französische Freundschaft” is used. This close partnership is also reflected in the cooperation between our Embassies abroad.

Here in Malta 🇲🇹, the German and French Embassies are in constant exchange and regularly work on joint projects together.

That is why the intern from the French Embassy and the legal trainee from the German Embassy had the opportunity to visit each other’s Embassies and meet the Ambassadors in order to gain an insight into the diplomatic work of our partner countries ✨

🐞 𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗮 𝗠𝗮𝗶𝗸ä𝗳𝗲𝗿 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻 — and for the International Day for Biological Diversity, we wanted to introduce one very iconic little visitor from Germany. 🇩🇪🌿

If you grew up in Germany, you probably know that moment: a warm spring evening, a sudden loud buzzing – and something unexpectedly large flying straight at you. 🧚‍♂️🚁

𝗠𝗮𝗶𝗸ä𝗳𝗲𝗿 don’t appear like this every year.

Most of their life happens underground: for around 3–4 years, the larvae remain hidden in the soil before emerging in larger numbers every few seasons. ⌛

𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗱𝗼, 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲. 😵‍💫
They’re big, a little clumsy in flight, and sound almost like tiny drones zooming through the evening air. Not always everyone’s favourite encounter — but definitely a fascinating reminder of how much biodiversity exists quietly around us, often unnoticed, until nature suddenly makes itself heard. 🌱✨
