Kalkrand Marketing Expo||

The Kalkrand Marketing Expo and the inauguration of the open market stalls officially kicked today in the sounthern town of the Hardap region.

Scheduled to take place from 29 October to 1 November, the expo brings together entrepreneurs, businesses, producers and service providers to showcase their products, build partnerships and open new markets.

Hardap Regional Road Safety Forum officially launched ||

The Hardap Region this morning re-launched the Hardap Regional Road Safety Forum under the theme “Respect the road – Protect our future.”

The event aimed at strengthening collaboration among key stakeholders while promoting responsible road use, improving road safety awareness and reducing road crashes, fatalities and serious injuries in the region.

The Forum will operate under the auspices of the Namibian Police Force in the region which will oversee its efforts to strengthen stakeholder coordination and promote road safety initiatives.

The Forum will serve as a coordination platform for OMAs, civil society and the public to collectively address road safety challenges through information sharing, public education and coordinated interventions and awareness campaigns.

Mariental Trade Festival has officially kicked off||

The Mariental Trade Festival was officially opened by the Her Worship, Ethel Isaack this evening.

The festival which started yesterday (22 October 2026) will end on Sunday (25 October 2026).

HARDAP SENIOR PRIMARY SPELLING BEE BRINGS TOGETHER LEARNERS FROM OVER 20 SCHOOLS

The Hardap Regional Senior Primary Spelling Bee Competition has concluded in Mariental, with more than 20 schools from different clusters across the region taking part in the literacy-focused competition.

The event brought together learners to test their spelling, vocabulary and language proficiency, while promoting reading, confidence and a culture of learning among Senior Primary learners.

Five learners emerged as the top performers, securing the first, second, third and other top positions. The winning learners represented Ruimte Primary School, Anna Maasdorp Primary School, Witkop Primary School and Captain Rev. Hendrick Witbooi Primary School.

Speaking at the event, Hardap Regional Director of Education Paulus Lewin highlighted the importance of strengthening foundational literacy skills among learners and encouraging schools to continue creating opportunities that improve language proficiency and academic performance.

The competition provided a platform for learners to showcase their abilities while celebrating literacy and the commitment of schools and teachers across the Hardap Region to improving educational outcomes.

Mariental Trade Festival ||

The Mariental Trade Festival continues to provide a platform for local entrepreneurs, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), farmers and service providers to showcase their products and services, expand their customer base and explore new business opportunities.

This year edition which started today, 22 October is expected to feature more corporate companies as well as a gospel show which wasn’t featured in the previous years.

SENIOR PRIMARY SPELLING BEE UNDERWAY IN HARDAP||

The Hardap Regional Senior Primary Spelling Bee Competition is currently underway at the Mariental Teachers Resource Centre, bringing together Senior Primary learners from across the region to showcase their spelling, vocabulary and language skills.

The competition seeks to strengthen literacy, reading habits, written communication and confidence among learners, while encouraging a culture of reading and learning in schools.

Learners are competing for top honours as they put their language proficiency and knowledge to the test in a battle of words.

Urgent manpower needed as fire spreads across Daweb & Gibeon Constituency

Community members, farmers, stakeholders from the Hardap Regional Council, Gibeon and Maltahöhe village councils and Firefighting teams are battling a widespread veld fire in the Daweb and Gibeon Constituency are calling for additional manpower to strengthen efforts to contain the blaze.

The fire has already affected large areas of communal land, with approximately 15 hectares reportedly impacted. While parts of the fire have been brought under control, strong winds continue to challenge firefighting efforts.

Chris Kisting , Senior Agriculture Technician,
Gibeon Dapees says more manpower and assistance are urgently needed, as water points are located far from the affected areas and farmers face losses of grazing land.
