FIRST GENTLEMAN RAISES ALARM OVER 13,000 LEARNER DROPOUTS | First Gentleman of Namibia, H.E Lt. Gen. (Rtd) Epaphras Denga Ndaitwah, has expressed concern over the high number of school dropouts recorded in the country.

Speaking during his keynote address in Outjo , Ndaitwah said a total of 13,315 learners dropped out of school during the 2024/2025 academic year, with Kunene Region accounting for 2,373 cases.

"Where are those 13,000 learners? Where are they now? What are they doing?" Ndaitwah asked.

"As we sit here today, we have over 1,000 children who have left school. We must ask ourselves, where are they now and what are they doing?" he said.

BOY CHILD CHALLENGES HIGHLIGHTED AT OUTJO ENGAGEMENT | Dantani Howoseb, a Grade 7 learner from Outjo Primary School, has identified several key challenges affecting boys’ education in the Kunene Region.

Speaking during the boy and girl child engagement hosted by the Office of the Governor, Howoseb said inadequate learning materials, limited parental involvement, peer pressure, bullying and a lack of positive role models are among the main issues learners face.

He further noted that poor academic performance, repeated failure and insufficient academic support can discourage boys from continuing with school, putting their future aspirations at risk.

ACADEMIC STRUGGLES OF BALLOTTI | Namibia’s Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture, Hon. Dino Ballotti, MP, reflects on his academic struggles, recalling how he scored as low as 15% to 20% during his second semester at school.

Ballotti credits a conscious decision to change his trajectory, alongside his father’s words of wisdom, for turning his academic performance around. He went on to pass all six subjects, secure enough points to enter university on his first attempt, and eventually rise to a leadership position in the education sector.

FIRST GENTLEMAN LAST STOP IN OUTJO - KUNENE REGION | The engagement marks the conclusion of his public lecture tour in the Kunene Region, which commenced on Tuesday, 20 October 2026, under the theme “Strategic Leadership and Management.” During the tour, the First Gentleman visited various constituencies across the region, engaging with communities on issues relating to leadership and development.

Today’s engagement in Outjo focuses on the plight of the boy child, while also addressing the importance of gender equality and the prevention of gender-based violence. The programme provides a platform for learners to reflect on the challenges facing children and the collective responsibility of communities in safeguarding their well-being and future.

LEARN, NOT SCROLL KAMANJAB | Former Outjo Constituency Councillor Abraham Job has urged learners to prioritise education over excessive time on social media.

Delivering a motivational talk during the First Gentleman's engagement with the boy and girl child at Kamanjab Community Hall, Job stressed that education should nurture creativity, self-reliance and the ability to create jobs, rather than merely seeking employment.

He encouraged the youth to acquire practical skills, citing farming, construction and cooking as viable examples, while challenging gender stereotypes by reminding learners that cooking, like any other valuable skill, is for both boys and girls.
