OYRLEA Intensifies Enforcement Against Illegal Livestock Trading, Open Grazing in Ibadan

The Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority (OYRLEA) has intensified enforcement activities against the illegal sale and open grazing of livestock in unauthorized areas across the state.

This follows the continuous public sensitization jingles jointly circulated by OYRLEA and the Association of livestock dealers and breaders, warning residents and livestock traders against selling sheep, rams, and goats at unapproved locations. The jingles also advised traders and livestock owners to obtain the list of authorized trading points from the Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development.

In continuation of the enforcement exercise, officers of the Authority on Friday stormed the Liberty area and Elekuro High School axis along Akanran Road, Ibadan, where enforcement actions were carried out against individuals who failed to comply with the directive and continued trading livestock in unauthorized places.

The enforcement team also intercepted some livestock openly grazing around the Sawmill Onipepeye area while returning from the operation. The act was found to be in violation of the Oyo State Anti-Open Rearing and Grazing Law.

At the end of the exercise, a total of seven (7) rams and one (1) goat were impounded by the Authority.

OYRLEA therefore reiterated its commitment to enforcing the laws guiding environmental sanitation, public order, and livestock management across Oyo State, while urging residents and livestock owners to strictly comply with government regulations to avoid sanctions.

PRESS RELEASE

OYRLEA, Ministry of Environment, Security Agencies Conduct Joint Clearance Operation on Destitutes and Beggars in Ibadan

The Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority, OYRLEA, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, the Nigeria Police Force, the Amotekun Corps, and the Environmental Task Force, carried out a joint clearance and enforcement operation on destitutes and street beggars in Ibadan Main City earlier this evening.

The operation was led by Retired DCP Francis Ojomo, Chairman of the Environmental Task Force, Oyo State. Key officials on ground included the Chief of Staff to the OYRLEA Chairperson, Iyabode Enitan Akinbode, Esq.,

The exercise covered key areas including Beere-Mapo-Ojaa'ba access routes.

During the exercise, scores of destitutes and beggars constituting environmental and public order impediments were apprehended. The individuals, who filled up two high-capacity buses, have been transported to the Internally Displaced and Destitute Home at Akinyele Local Government Area, for proper profiling, care, and rehabilitation.

Speaking on the operation, The Chairperson of the OYRLEA, Honourable Justice Aderonke Adekemi Aderemi (Rtd.) reaffirmed the Authority's stance against indiscriminate street begging and the unlawful occupation of public spaces. The Authority noted that the activities of destitutes and beggars on major roads and walkways pose serious environmental challenges, obstruct free movement, and compromise public safety and hygiene.

Justice Aderemi
emphasized that a cleaner, safer, and more orderly environment is critical to the vision of the Oyo State Government under Governor Seyi Makinde. The Authority urged members of the public to desist from encouraging street begging and to cooperate with enforcement agencies in maintaining order across the state.

The joint operation will be sustained to ensure that Ibadan and other parts of Oyo State remain clean, safe, and conducive for residents, visitors, and businesses.
