On October 28, 2026, the ✨𝐆𝐂𝐕𝐏𝐀 𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐚𝐝𝐚✨ shared their 𝘱𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯 and 𝘥𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 to the conservation and protection of our marine resources with 132 enthusiastic participants, including students, student interns, and teachers from Philippine Normal University Visayas–CTL.

We sincerely appreciate everyone who participated! We hope the enthusiasm we felt inside the venue will spill over into our daily efforts to conserve and protect our environment. 💙🌏

We would also like to recognize the students and student interns who actively participated in the activities, including those who sang the fun facts about giant clams and those who created taglines for the GCVPA, such as:

📝 “Baybayon, halungan, para mapuslan sang kadam-an”
📝 “Giant clam preservation, indi sakit sa tagipusuon”
📝 “Look, don’t touch Cadiz City’s marine creatures”

Barang ka.... barang ka teh...Maliiiii

This spiny creature is a 𝐛𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠-𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐬𝐞𝐚 𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧, locally known as 𝘵𝘶𝘺𝘰𝘮. It is a prickly relative of sea stars that can be found throughout the Indo-Pacific region. Its natural habitat is coral reefs🪸, and it mainly feeds on algae🌱.

The next time you swim in the sea, be careful not to step on one, as its spines can cause painful injuries. Also, do not urinate🚫 on the wound, as this is not a recommended treatment and may increase the risk of infection.

Watch out and stay safe! 🌊

You look familiar….👀
Hey guys, it’s me… Abaloneee 💅

This mighty creature seen in the GCVPA is an abalone 🐚. Abalone are gastropod mollusks that belong to the family Haliotidae. These animals can be found on coral and rocky substrates in the Philippines and other tropical regions 🥵; however, they can also be found in temperate regions ❄️.

They are herbivores, feeding on microalgae during their early stages of life and on macroalgae or seaweed as adults.

Here in the Philippines, we have naturally three species.

Can we get an ✨EME✨?

Dahil nandito na ang gandang 𝙋𝙄𝙉𝙄𝙋𝙄𝙇𝘼𝙃𝘼𝘼𝘼𝙉!!

The beauty we see here is a 𝓷𝓾𝓭𝓲𝓫𝓻𝓪𝓷𝓬𝓱, commonly known as a 𝐬𝐞𝐚 𝐬𝐥𝐮𝐠. These soft-bodied gastropod mollusks are known for their “naked gills,” bright colors, and stolen defense mechanisms. They “steal” stinging cells from their prey to protect themselves.

These animals are highly diverse and widely distributed. They can be found in Tanzania, Madagascar, Papua New Guinea, and here in the 🇵🇭Philippines, where approximately 𝟏,𝟐𝟎𝟎 species of nudibranchs are known.

Next time you swim in the 🌊sea, take a moment to look for these beautiful creatures!

Ayown, tumbling siya eh!

This sea star is exhibiting a flip to right its position using its tube feet. It usually attaches its tube feet to a surface and then bends itself into the right position. The need to right itself is important for its mobility and survival, to evade predation, and for feeding because its mouth is on the central underside of its body.
