On 20 October 2026, our team recently had an inspiring session with the students of Saguing Farm School – LNAS Extension Farm in Saguing, Maria, Siquijor.

The DOST Siquijor team dropped by to conduct an awareness seminar on the basics of food safety, product packaging, and labeling.

Why do these topics matter so much? Because growing crops is just the beginning! By learning how to keep food safe, pack it well, and label it accordingly, our future agri-preneurs can make their products stand out in the market. This means better local farm-based businesses, more practical skills for our learners, and sustainable livelihoods for our community.

We are so proud of these students for taking a big step toward agricultural entrepreneurship. Great job, everyone!

There is nothing quite like seeing young minds in action. Students from Siquijor Provincial Science High School proudly pitched their latest innovations and shared the creative ideas they’ve been working so hard on. To help guide these promising projects, our team—Provincial S&T Director Macbeth S. Dal, Senior SRS Engr. Reinhold Jek Y. Abing, and Project Technical Aide VI Engr. Kristian John Caalem—sat down with the students to listen, ask questions, and provide constructive feedback.

It was a highly collaborative and inspiring session. We focused on giving the students actionable recommendations and tips on how to fine-tune their work and take their innovations to the next level. It’s always a special and deeply personal moment for our team to mentor these young innovators.

DOST Siquijor just officially inked two major Memoranda of Agreement (MOA) for new Grant-in-Aid (GIA) projects—bringing homegrown science and technology directly to our classrooms and communities.

We are boosting the science laboratory capabilities of the Siquijor Provincial Science High School’s Junior and Senior High School departments. Through the adoption of the DOST-developed Versatile Instrumentation System for Science Education and Research (VISSER), our students will now have hands-on access to modern, locally developed laboratory tools to fuel the next generation of scientists and innovators.

We also signed a MOA with BLGU Dumanhog to establish a community-managed water safety system within the next 12 months. This project upgrades a manual artesian well into an automated distribution network. By deploying three (3) DOST TAPI-assisted RainFold systems integrated with a DOST-ITDI SAFEWATRS purification unit, we are guaranteeing that all 770 residents of Brgy. Dumanhog will have 100% access to safe drinking water strictly complying with the Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water (PNSDW).

DOST Siquijor recently conducted a Manufacturing Productivity Extension (MPEX) monitoring visit with our MSME beneficiaries under the technology upgrading program across the province. Sitting down directly with our local entrepreneurs allows us to see firsthand how our scientific and technological interventions are making a tangible difference on the production floor.

Through MPEX monitoring, we ensure that the technical assistance provided actively translate to optimized operations, higher-quality products, and sustainable business growth. We are incredibly proud of our MSME partners for their dedication to excellence and their vital role in strengthening the local economy.

DOST Siquijor was deeply honored to assist the DOST Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD) team in successfully conducting the National Scoping and Needs Assessment Initiative Under the Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation in Health (DRR-CCAH) R&D Programs on September 24, 2026.

Working hand-in-hand with LGU Larena and the Provincial Government of Siquijor, this crucial initiative helps us deeply understand our community's unique health needs and vulnerabilities in the face of climate challenges.

True disaster resilience requires science, collaboration, and a shared commitment to protecting our people. We extend our sincerest gratitude to the local leaders, health officers, and community members who made this vital assessment a success.

It is always an inspiring experience to witness the creativity and dedication of our local youth. Recently, we at the DOST Siquijor Provincial Science and Technology Office (PSTO) had the privilege of welcoming the bright minds of Siquijor Provincial Science High School right here at the Innovation Hub of Siquijor.

The students took the floor to pitch their science investigatory projects, fresh innovations, and research papers. Our team was more than happy to sit down with them, listen to their ideas, and share constructive, professional feedback. We focused on helping them refine their research methods, tighten their data, and see the real-world applications of their hard work.

Seeing their passion for science reminds us exactly why we do what we do. By bridging the gap between classroom concepts and practical application, we hope to equip these young researchers with the tools and confidence they need to create meaningful solutions for our community.

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Siquijor Provincial Science and Technology Office actively participated in the "Handog ng Pangulo Serbisyong Sapat Para sa Lahat" today, September 14, 2026, at the Dagukanan sa Kapitolyo in Polangyuta, Siquijor. To maximize community reach, the agency established an information booth detailing core developmental initiatives, including DOST-SEI Undergraduate Scholarships, the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP), Local Grants-in-Aid (GIA), and Community Empowerment Thru Science and Technology (CEST). Alongside the dissemination of these program frameworks, the team conducted an essential orientation on the Hazard Hunter PH platform, empowering residents with localized hazard assessment tools to strengthen disaster risk reduction and management awareness.

Complementing these educational efforts, DOST Siquijor facilitated direct public engagement by distributing technology-backed food products that highlight the practical impact of DOST research on health and local enterprise. Participants received samples of the Enhanced Nutribun, a highly nutritious product formulated by the DOST Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI) and manufactured by Jainin's Cakes and Pastries, a licensed local producer. Furthermore, attendees were provided with complimentary servings from Tating's Ice Cream, serving as a tangible showcase of a successful micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) that has elevated its productivity and competitiveness through the technological interventions of the DOST SETUP initiative.
