Dr. Arjumand Rabbani, Chair Service Projects RCKNC, conducted a session on “Climate Change: A Growing Threat to Human Health” for 36 students and 3 teachers at Al Furqan School PECHS Branch on 14th May.

She explained the causes of climate change and highlighted its health impacts in Pakistan. These include extreme heatwaves, floods, water and vector borne diseases, food insecurity, and disruption of healthcare services leading to child and maternal nutrition problems, and psychological stress.

Dr. Rabbani discussed possible practical steps to reduce climate change, including environmental conservation, waste reduction, tree plantation, and adopting sustainable practices in daily life.

RCKNC President Faryal Asif also addressed the gathering.

RCK New Central's Service Projects and Polio Chair was presented a Regional Award by the Trustees of the Rotary Foundation on 9th May at the Polio Orientation Workshop organized by District 3271.

The award was given in recognition of Dr Arjumand's efforts in furthering Rotary’s mission of polio eradication. She has been conducting numerous awareness sessions on polio in schools and other forums for several years.

We congratulate Dr Arjumand on this well-deserved award and look forward to her continued efforts towards eradication of polio in Pakistan!

On 5th May, RCKNC President Faryal Asif, Vice President Dr Talat Rizvi and General Secretary Laraib Talat conducted a half-day workshop on career counselling for Al Furqan PECHS branch 10th grade students

20 students attended this workshop, which guided them on the courses and path they need to take for different career opportunities. It was an interactive session where students took full advantage by raising very important and pertinent questions.

This activity is part of RCKNC long-term project called ,“Aagay Barho Sab”. This project aims to support underprivileged students to gain meaningful education through which they can acquire employment. The impact of this project will be seen after 2-4 years and will be a great opportunity to uplift their community.

On 25th April, RCK New Central's Vice President Dr Talat Rizvi, Service Projects Chair Dr Arjumand Rabbani, Treasurer Zeb Ishaq and Community Development Chair Ruhi Rahman visited Kashif Iqbal Thalassemia Trust (KITT), one of the organizations our club has been regularly supporting.

They handed over cheques to Mr Muhammad Iqbal, Founder and Chairman of KITT, for treatment of patients, as well as for their Rozgar Scheme which provides carts (thelas) to needy persons to support their families.

RCKNC feels proud to work with such motivated organizations who are providing exemplary services to the community.

On Monday, 27th April, a Mehfil-e-Mushaira was organized as a joint venture of Rotary Clubs and Theosophical Society (TOS). The four host clubs were Rotary Club of Karachi New Central, RCK Happy Palace, RCK Silver Sands, and RCK Intra City. The theme of the event was "Umeed ki Kiran" (Ray of Hope).

The Chief Guest was District Governor Shakeel Kaimkhani, while the Sadr-e-Mushaira was Dr. Peerzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui. Dr. Zaigham Khan of TOS conducted the proceedings.

Renowned poets including Rehana Roohi, Naseem Sehar, Syed Naseem Shah, and many others graced the occasion with their kalaam. The introduction was given by Rubina Faryal Asif, President RCK New Central, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Mr. Mushtaq Jandani of TOS.

The event concluded with shield presentations to the poets, club Presidents, Dr. Peerzada Qasim, Dr. Zaigham Khan and DG Shakeel Kaim Khani. They appreciated the efforts of the organizers and encouraged more such cultural activities in the future.

A large number of Rotarians and renowned people from different walks of life attended the program. The evening was followed by a delicious dinner.

Dr. Arjumand Rabbani, RCKNC Chair Service Projects, delivered a session on Thalassemia at Community Midwifery School, Kharadar General Hospital on 23rd April.

She explained its causes and mode of inheritance, emphasizing community awareness and pre-marital screening for prevention. The session was interactive, with participation from 35 students and 3 teachers.

A Breast Cancer workshop was facilitated by Dr. Arjumand Rabbani, Chair Service Projects, RCKNC, on 11th April for Community Midwives at Cowasjee Midwifery School. She stressed the importance of self-care and regular breast screening for early detection. Through a hands-on demonstration, 46 students learned the correct technique of breast self-examination, supported by a video. The session enhanced awareness of breast cancer stages and reinforced the importance of early detection to save lives and improve outcomes.

Dr. Arjumand Rabbani, Chair Service Projects, RCKNC, conducted a session on Gestational Diabetes for 30 midwifery students and one faculty member at Bilqis Edhi Community Midwifery School, Lyari, on 7th April.

The session covered the causes, identification of women at higher risk, and the potential consequences if Diabetes remain untreated. The vital role of midwives was discussed, including screening during antenatal care, monitoring during pregnancy, safe delivery practices, and postpartum follow-up. Strengthening midwives’ capacity was emphasized to ensure timely intervention and improved health outcomes for both mother and baby.

Dr Arjumand Rabbani, Chair Service Projects, RCKNC, conducted a session on postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) at Cowasjee Midwifery School on 16th March. She emphasized that although PPH is the leading cause of maternal mortality, many deaths can be prevented by adhering to established guidelines. She stressed on the importance of early recognition, prompt management, and timely referral, which are crucial steps in saving mothers’ lives. The session aimed to enable 44 midwifery students and 2 teachers, to identify and manage PPH effectively.

SCINOSA (Society for Children In Need Of Special Attention) has been one of RCKNC's partner organizations since the club's establishment. SCINOSA is the first institution in Pakistan for individuals with Down syndrome and other intellectual challenges. The aim of the Society is to help special children develop into fully functioning and useful individuals, to the best of their potential.

On 13th March, RCKNC Charter President Shanaz Ramzi, President Elect Almas Tariq and member Bilkis Qureshi presented cheques to SCINOSA's Honorary Secretary Zulfiqar Al Ramzi on behalf of the club.
