What were our YP youths up to this Mother’s Day?

Tying ribbons. Handing carnations. Pulling up chairs at hawker centres to chat with the mothers and mothers-in-spirit who hold our estates together.

Across markets and town centres islandwide, our members spent the morning saying thank you the old-fashioned way: face to face, one flower at a time. To the women who raised us, fed us, watched our kids while we worked late, and kept their doors open to neighbours who needed somewhere to sit down for a while: we see you.

This Labour Day, a question worth sitting with: in an economy being rewritten by AI, what does a real start look like for young Singaporeans?

The anxiety is honest. Students, fresh graduates and young professionals are asking what this means for their careers and futures. YP hears it.

But the answer isn’t to slow down. If Singapore hesitates while the world moves, our workers end up worse off. The real question is whether young Singaporeans will be equipped to succeed through the change, not insulated from it.

That means investing in skills, keeping real entry-level pathways open, and making sure technology strengthens opportunities for young people rather than shutting them out before they’ve started. Long-term security comes from being the kind of worker the world wants to hire. Not from short-term fixes alone.

As PM Lawrence Wong put it plainly at this year’s May Day Rally: Singapore cannot hunker down and hope the skies will clear. We must continue moving forward with confidence, embrace new opportunities, and strengthen our place in the world while ensuring Singaporeans are supported through every stage of change.

That same spirit will matter even more in the age of AI.

This Labour Day, YP stands with every young Singaporean building their start.

17yo Pranith and Louis signed up for our Young PAP dinner chat last night.

They were curious about the People's Action Party and our youth wing, and asked probing and deep questions about our Party and its role in stewarding and governing our nation. As Young PAP Chair, I'm so encouraged that youths like Pranith and Louis are coming forward, asking questions, probing and offering to contribute on the ground.

They are our party's future, and more importantly, our nation's future.

As we refresh our Young PAP, we will organize more such events.

YP Clementi showed us what a strong group of YP activists at the branch level can do to create impact for their residents and other youths. It was encouraging to see how our Clementi YP team took action yesterday, bringing together a thoughtful event run by youths, for youths.
