Máximo Gómez - Son of Destiny!
The Pamella Benson Audio Visual Room at the National Library of Trinidad and Tobago came alive with history and cultural exchange on June 17 as the Embassies of Cuba and the Dominican Republic, in collaboration with NALIS, hosted a special screening of Máximo Gómez: Hijo del Destino (Máximo Gómez: Son of Destiny).
The 90 minute film explores the life and legacy of Máximo Gómez, the Dominican-born military leader who became one of the most influential figures in Cuba's flight for independence. Through historical accounts and cinematic storytelling, the documentary higlights not only his role as a brillant military strategist, but also the personal journey of a man whose leadership and commitment shaped Caribbean history.
Through the screening of films such as this, NALIS reinforces the importance of preserving and sharing stories that deepen the public's understanding of regional history, identity and indivduals whose contributions continue to inspire generations.
