Emergencies demand swift, decisive action.

When an emergency unfolds, you need to know who to call—and trust that the team answering has the experience, resources and leadership to respond. That confidence is built through preparation, capable people and reliable systems, long before the call comes.

Over the weekend, IRP was called upon to support the response to a growing fire emergency. Situations like these reinforce why we invest in experienced, committed professionals who understand the responsibility that comes with helping protect lives.

That same responsibility guides our choice of the brands we represent. Our clients need proven fire and safety solutions they can depend on when the pressure is greatest.

We work alongside key partners, state-owned agencies, our clients’ HSE teams, emergency responders and incident command personnel to assess risks, identify the right resources and recommend appropriate technical solutions. This collaboration helps us provide informed, practical support when every decision matters.

Whether the call comes at 8:00 pm on a Saturday or 2:00 am on a Monday, our team stands ready to respond. We take our clients’ trust seriously, and we recognise that their confidence in us carries an obligation to be prepared, accessible and dependable.

A special thank you to Glen Thompson, Luke Thompson, Joel Ramlal, Dwayne Joseph, Sa’id Mohammed, Bindra Sinanan, Thais De Gannes and Zakeeya Khan, who immediately answered the call and activated our emergency response process.

Their calm professionalism, responsiveness and teamwork reflect the values that define IRP. Effective emergency support requires technical expertise, sound judgement, clear communication and people willing to step forward when others are facing uncertainty. We are grateful to have a team that brings these qualities to its work.

At IRP, we are committed to providing trusted fire and safety solutions and standing alongside our clients when the unexpected happens.

No Flames Doesn’t Mean No Danger 🔥

When a lithium-ion battery fire appears to be out, the hazard may still remain. Damaged battery cells can retain dangerous internal heat and may re-ignite minutes - or even hours - later.

After a battery incident:
đźš« Do not reuse or recharge the battery
đźš« Do not handle it unnecessarily
⚠️ Keep the area clear and away from combustible materials
📞 Contact trained personnel or emergency services where required

Visible flames may be gone, but the battery may still be unstable.

If a lithium-ion battery begins to smoke or release vapour, do not approach it or try to inspect it closely.
Battery smoke can contain hazardous gases, making it important to act quickly and keep your distance.

If this happens:
➡️ Move away from the area immediately
➡️ Alert anyone nearby
➡️ Avoid breathing the smoke or vapours
➡️ Contact emergency services if needed

Smoke is a serious warning sign - treat it as an emergency and prioritize getting to a safe distance. 🔋🔥

🔋 Swelling or bulging
🌡️ Excessive or unusual heat
🔊 Hissing, popping or crackling sounds
đź’¨ Smoke, vapour or a strange odour

If you notice any of these signs, stop using and charging the device immediately and keep your distance if it appears unsafe.

Lithium-ion batteries are safe when used correctly, but certain conditions can increase the risk of overheating, failure or fire.

Some common warning signs and risk factors include:

⚡ Using the wrong or poor-quality charger
🌡️ Heat buildup from charging in poorly ventilated areas
đź’Ą Dropping, crushing or damaging a battery
🔌 Overloaded outlets or unsafe electrical connections
🔋 Swollen, punctured or visibly damaged batteries

Know the risks. Spot the warning signs. Take action before a small issue becomes a fire hazard.

If a battery is damaged, swollen or overheating, stop using it immediately and follow the manufacturer’s safety guidance.

Most of us charge our phones, tablets and other devices every day without thinking twice — but how you charge matters.

Help reduce the risk of overheating and battery-related fires by keeping these simple habits in mind:

✔️ Use the correct OEM or manufacturer-approved charger for your device
✔️ Charge on a firm, flat surface with good airflow
✔️ Follow the manufacturer’s charging instructions and unplug when charging is complete

Smart charging choices can help reduce the risk of fire. 🔌🧯

This Fire Prevention Week, make safe charging part of your routine.
