Today, elementary teachers, classified staff, and administrators from across GAPS came together for their first day of CORE Literacy training!

This is the first of three training days scheduled this school year as part of our districtwide effort to strengthen reading instruction and improve literacy outcomes for students.

Through this training, our staff are building a shared understanding of how students learn to read and developing consistent, research-based instructional practices across our elementary schools.

Thank you to our staff for spending the day learning, collaborating, and continuing to find ways to support our students as they grow as readers!

Last week, we celebrated National School Lunch Week, and some of our GAPS School Board members joined students for lunch!

It was a great opportunity for board members to spend time in our schools, connect with students, and see firsthand the work our Nutrition Services team does every day.

A big thank you to our Nutrition Services staff for the care and hard work that goes into preparing and serving meals to thousands of GAPS students each day. And thank you to our board members for taking the time to share a meal with our students!

Here are a few fun moments from their visits! 📸

Our hearts go out to the students, staff, and families of Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend. We know that news of an incident like this can be difficult for students, families, and school staff, even when it happens outside our own community.

Tomorrow morning, officers from the Albany Oregon Police Department (APD) will be visiting our schools to welcome students as they arrive. Their presence is intended to provide a friendly, reassuring start to the school day and show their support for our school community.

We appreciate our ongoing partnership with APD and their commitment to the safety and well-being of our students and staff.

Our thoughts remain with the Silver Rail Elementary community.

Benny the Bean is officially on his Book Tour! 📚

His latest stop? South Shore Elementary, where students have already logged an impressive 14,000 minutes of reading toward our districtwide million-minute Beanstack challenge!

Benny spent some time exploring the library, making new book buddies, and even trying his hand at checking out books.

Way to go, South Shore! Keep those pages turning and those minutes adding up. We can't wait to see where Benny goes next!

🐻 The MMS Bears have started Outdoor School! 🌲

The Memorial Middle School Bears just wrapped up Camp Whispering Winds for an exciting training experience with Aron Rosenthal and the Coyle Outside Team!

At camp, our 6th-grade students got hands-on experience learning field lessons, activities, leadership skills, and all sorts of neat tricks! From exploring the outdoors to learning how to lead engaging lessons, the Bears stepped up for the challenge and worked hard learning about the outdoors!

We would also like to give a huge thank you to Laney Landis, a 6th grader at Calapooia, who won the logo design contest for Outdoor School!

Go Bears! 🐻

Today, we recognize the incredible staff across GAPS who help ensure our multilingual students and families can access information, ask questions, participate, and feel connected to their schools.

From our interpreters and bilingual assistants to the staff supporting English language development, bilingual education, and our Welcome Center, this work happens across our district every day.

Communication is about more than sharing information. It’s about making sure every family has a way to be heard and be part of their school community.

Thank you to all of our GAPS staff who help bridge languages, build connections, and make our schools more welcoming for every family! 💙
