The right to vote, essential to a well-functioning society, is the most enshrined right in the Constitution and is protected by five separate Amendments.

Voting is not merely a right; it is a responsibility and privilege that each eligible citizen should embrace. By participating in elections, you play an active role in shaping the future of our community and our country.

While people may be of different political positions, we should all agree we have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, whatever that is for each of us.

In observance of Election Day 2026, the administrative offices of Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office will be closed Tuesday November 3, 2026. Offices will re-open on Wednesday November 4, 2026 at 8 AM.

We urge all of our citizens to please exercise their right to vote!

Tonight was the culmination of approximately 15 Trick or Treat events all over the parish with the Indian Creek Trick or Treat event.

Deputies greeted and handed out candy to trick or treaters at several events, some of them on their off duty time.

We so enjoy getting to spend time at these events, visiting with the kids and the parents each year. And we are already looking forward to next year!

National First Responders Day 2026 is observed today, Wednesday, October 28, 2026, to honor the approximately 4.6 million career and volunteer public safety personnel across the United States.

First Responders Day honors Firefighters, police officers, Deputy Sheriff’s, Troopers, EMTs, paramedics, 911 communication officers and public works personnel.

They are the people who run toward a crisis while the rest of the world flees. According to the Department of Homeland Security, 4.6 million career and volunteer first responders support the communities where they live.

We are very blessed in Rapides Parish to have the quality of dedicated First Responders that we have.

From that first call for help, to fire, law enforcement and EMS arriving, these heroes put it on the line every day, 365 days a year.

Please join Sheriff Mark Wood in acknowledging and thanking our First Responders in Central LA!

“Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I; send me!’

Today, we were so happy to be a part of “Together Tuesday” at Carter C. Raymond!

We greeted the students and got to wish them a good day.

We get to do these all over the parish and one thing we see every time is the dedication and the love our Rapides Parish School Board administrators, teachers and paraprofessionals have for their students. It is evident in every smile, every hug and every high five!

Thank you Dr. Jill Summers, your staff and of course our very own Deputy Yvonne McCain for the invite!

See you next time!

Proverbs 22:6 in the Bible states: "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it"

Making a difference, one student at a time.

That’s what we do!

Thank you Officer Hogan, our D.A.R.E. officer, for speaking to our 1st and 2nd graders about safety!
