Protecting the people, businesses & the environment of LA County. - https://linktr.ee/lac_acwm Established in 1881, our Department protects consumers, the integrity of the marketplace, the health and safety of residents, and improves the quality of the environment through the enforcement of Federal, State and local laws and regulations. Our variety of services is unparalleled in other counties throughout California. Our programs provide leadership and direction in the successful early detection, exclusion, and eradication of dangerous, invasive insect and plant pests; enforcement of laws and regulations regarding safe pesticide use; clearance of weeds, brush, and debris from vacant land to reduce fire hazards; inspection and verification of accuracy of scales, meters, price scanners, and quantity labeling on packaged goods; and the operation of a metrology laboratory. These programs protect the marketplace from unfair competition and a loss of confidence, consumers from fraud and increased food prices, the environment from increased pesticide application and pesticide mishandling, and the agricultural industry from increased costs for pest control.

Pumpkin patch season is here! 🎃

Before you head home with the perfect pick, add one more thing to your checklist: look for the ACWM inspection seal on the scales at checkout.

Seasonal businesses can pop up quickly across LA County, and ACWM inspectors work to identify and inspect these locations as soon as possible.

If you visit a pumpkin patch and don't see an inspection seal, call LA County's Weights and Measures Bureau at (562) 622-0402 so the team can check it out.

ACWM inspectors Karina Narvaez, Jesus Estrada and Laura Kopase enjoyed celebrating the heritage, culture and history of Mexico and its people at the Mexican Independence Day Festival in East Los Angeles on Sept. 13.

Thank you to everyone who stopped to visit, ask questions and learn more about our team’s work across LA County to help ensure fair retail store prices, accuracy at the gas pumps, safe pesticide use, pest exclusion practices and more. It’s a pleasure to celebrate with and get to know more of our neighbors in the communities we serve.

Help us preserve the beautiful oak trees in LA County. 🌳

Managing invasive species in LA County is a key part of the work we do at ACWM. We’ve responded to an increased volume of inspection requests for the Goldspotted Oak Borer (GSOB) in recent years alongside our expanded monitoring programs and active community outreach to grow awareness of its potentially devastating impacts.

Keep an eye on the oak trees in your neighborhood and notify us at the link in our bio if you’re noticing signs of GSOB in your area.

Discover the buzz behind local agriculture. 🐝

Bees play an important role in pollinating plants to support ecosystems and agriculture throughout the county, and beekeepers provide the care and management needed to keep our bee populations healthy.

That's where ACWM's Apiary Program comes in. We support beekeepers by registering apiaries, maintaining records, providing educational resources and promoting responsible beekeeping practices, helping strengthen agriculture throughout LA County.

We're bringing scale certification to a whole new level! ⚖️

While our Produce Quality team conducted their regular produce inspections at three Certified Farmers' Markets, our Weights and Measures team joined to verify all vendors had up-to-date scale certifications.

Until now, market vendors were asked to bring their scales to an ACWM office for inspection. Today, we're pleased to provide more flexibility for our vendors with the additional option to have their scales tested on-site at the market.
