ELEMENTARY TEACHERS, LET CURIOSITY LEAD THE WAY! 🍎
What did school look like before computers, smartboards, and even electricity?
At the Illinois Amish Heritage Center, young learners can explore a world that looks very different from the one they know today!
A field trip can spark curiosity about:
🏫 School Days Long Ago: Discover how children learned in one-room schoolhouses.
🏡 Then & Now: Compare historic homes, tools, chores, and daily routines with modern life.
🌾 Farm Life: Learn how agriculture helped families and communities thrive.
🧺 Everyday Inventions: Explore how people completed daily tasks before modern conveniences.
🤝 Community & Culture: Introduce students to the importance of traditions, cooperation, and respecting different ways of life.
It's history, social studies, and hands-on curiosity all in one memorable setting!
📩 Elementary teachers and homeschool groups, contact IAHC to inquire about planning your next educational adventure.

Tomorrow marks the final day of our regular touring season at the Illinois Amish Heritage Center!

As we prepare to wrap up another season, we're grateful for every visitor, student, family, and group who spent time exploring the history preserved here.

But don't say goodbye just yet!

While regular tours conclude October 31, **private tours can still be scheduled for schools, churches, organizations, and other groups.** Whether you're looking for an educational experience, a group activity, or an opportunity to explore the area's rich history, we'd love to talk about what we can offer.

And our special events aren't finished for the year!

**Still Ahead:**
- November 13 – German Spelling Bee
- December 15 – Old-Fashioned Christmas

There's always another reason to return, another story to discover, and another opportunity to connect with the past.

Thank you for being part of our season! Visit www.illinoisamish.org to explore upcoming events or inquire about a private group tour.

Some of the most interesting stories are found in the everyday moments.

What part of your routine do you most look forward to?

There’s something special about hearing a story you’ve never heard before.

At our recent storytelling gathering, we had the chance to hear personal stories that offer a glimpse into Amish life, family, and community. From generations-old family histories to the everyday experiences that bring people together, these stories remind us how much we can learn when we take the time to listen.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and shared a piece of their story!

Welcome to Grossmudder's Gaarde, or “Grandmother's Garden,” right here at the Illinois Amish Heritage Center.

The garden is another part of the Heritage Center experience, offering a glimpse into the importance of growing, tending and making use of what the land provides.

There’s always something new to notice when you take a closer look. What catches your eye in the garden?
