, October 27th, 1892, "W.O. Wolfe is telling his friends today that Grover Cleveland and Benjamin Harrison came to his house last night. Of course this is not really a fact--it is merely Mr. Wolfe's way of announcing the birth at his home of twin boys, fine little fellows. All are doing well." (October 27, 1892 Asheville Citizen)

Happy Birthday to twins Grover Cleveland Wolfe and Benjamin Harrison Wolfe, born amidst the Presidential Election that year.

we remember Thomas Wolfe’s beloved brother Benjamin Harrison Wolfe, who died from pneumonia after suffering from the deadly Spanish Influenza on October 19th, 1918. He was 25 years old.

“Come with me to the places where the young men lie whose bodies have long since been buried in the earth. Come with me where they walk and move again tonight, and you shall see your brother’s face again, and hear his voice, and see again, as they march toward you from their graves, the company of young men who died, as he did, in October, speaking to you their message of flight, of triumph, and all-exultant darkness, telling you that it all will be again as it was once.”
Thomas Wolfe, “No Door” July 1933

📣Join us in congratulating the winners of this year's Student Writing Competition! ✍
With submissions from across the State and as far as Maryland, Nevada, and India, our judges had such a hard time narrowing down the top contenders! Each winner receives a cash prize and award certificate, courtesy of our friends in the Thomas Wolfe Memorial Advisory Committee.

We look forward to meeting our winners and giving them a chance to share their stories in person here at the Memorial during our awards ceremony in November. Congratulations on a job well done! 🎉
